Eve Lunkenheimer Meitl

Eve Lunkenheimer was born in Peru, Illinois, on January 3, 1860, and passed away at her home in Leoville on December 8, 1938, at the age of 78 year, 11 months and 5 days.

At the age of eight years she came with her parents to Washington County, Kansas, where, on April 5, 1880, she was united in marriage to Joseph Meitl. They lived in Washington County until 1885, when with their two children they came to Decatur County where they took a homestead nine miles south of Oberlin, where she had resided the past 53 years.

Mrs. Meitl was the mother of ten children, Albert who died in 1915; Henry, who died in 1933; Katie Kaus of Cottonwood, Idaho, Mary Reichert, of Selden, Joseph Meitl of Dyersville, Iowa, Frank Meitl, Louise Schroer, John Meitl, Margaret Heim and Anna Dempewolf all of Dresden. Her husband preceded her in death in 1922. She also leaves 69 grandchildren, other relatives and friends. She was a good mother and was ever ready to help where help was needed. She was loved for her kindly acts toward neighbors.

All of the children except Katie Kaus and Joseph Meitl were at her bedside when death came and attended her funeral.

Funeral services were held on Saturday morning at nine o’clock at the Catholic Church in Leoville. She was laid to rest in Calvary Cemetery with Reverend John G. Wolf officiating at the services.
