George Edmund Holben, son of Lawrence and Elizabeth (Wertenberger) Holben, was born in Indiana, on July 16, 1861 and departed this life June 12, 1941, aged 79 years, 10 months and 26 days.

He was united in marriage to Etta (Henrietta) May Thoma, November 16, 1882 and to this union  were born four children, Grace and Harold of the home, Mabel Vernon of Norcatur; and Elva May (Faye) who died in infancy.

In the year of 1888 Mr. and Mrs. Holben and two older children moved from Indiana to near Norcatur, residing in or near there until departing this life. After losing his companion 25 years ago, the daughter Grace continued to make a home and care for him in his declining years.

He leaves to mourn his departure three children, one son-in-law, four grandchildren, one brother Jacob of Norcatur, two sister-in-laws Mrs. Sol Holben (Elizabeth Hagerman) and Mrs. Jacob Holben (Nancy E. Bouse), other relatives and many friends.

His father and mother, four brothers and four sisters passed away years ago and his brother Sol preceded him in death by only a few months.

Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Henry Jongema from the Methodist church on Saturday, June 14, and burial was made in the Norcatur cemetery beside the wife.
