Hervie Monroe Hill, only son of James Peter and Effie Mathewson Hill,
was born February 16, 1889 near Achilles, Rawlins County Kansas. He died
April 27, 1958 at his home in Herndon, Kansas after a long illness.

He spent his entire life in the Achilles and Herndon Communities except
for a short period spent at Camp Funston, Kansas as a private in 1918.
He was a farmer, barber, and mechanic.

On October 3, 1917 he was married to Anna [Indiana] Johnston. They had
six children: Mrs. Lary O'Grady (Ivalee) of Cimarron, Kansas, Mrs. H.B.
Bartleson (Roberta), Wichita, Kansas, Mrs. Ernest Bleam (Twila) Wichita,
Kansas, Duane Hill, Brunswick, Missouri, and Dewey Hill of Herndon,
Kansas. A daughter, Lorraine, died in infancy. He leaves to mourn his
passing his widow, five children, three sons-in-law, 9 grandchildren,
his sister, Pearl Bacon of McCook, Nebraska, several nieces and nephews,
other relatives, and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, and a
brother-in-law, Frank Bacon.

Funeral services were held April 30, at the Shandler Funeral Home in
Atwood. Interment was in the Achilles cemetery at Achilles, Kansas.
