Joseph John Brown

  Joseph John Brown was born in Bischofswerda Germany , Feb. 9, 1825 and died in Bassettville township Decatur County , Kansas , May 8, 1909, aged 84 ys 2 month and 29 days.  He came to America with his wife and two children in 1865 settling in St Joe, Mo.   His wife having died he was married to Mrs. Margaret Kahlor in 1874 and soon after came to Republic county, Kan , where he lived until 1892 [1902] when they came to Decatur county living with their son Rev. J. H. Brown near Bassettville.  The deceaed [deceased] was a member of the Roman Catholic church until 18 years ago he was converted and joined the Methodist church of which he ever remained a faithful member.

He leaves a widow and son at home and a son and daughter of the first marriage to mourn his departure.  The funeral held on Sunday May 9, sermon by Rev. M. J. Mumford, after which interment took place in the Bassettville cemetery.
