Joseph Meitl

Joseph Meitl died at his home in Leoville, June 30th [1922], aged 73 years, 8 months and 16 days, as a result of a general failure of his health, complicated with asthma.

Joseph Meitl was born in Bavaria, Germany, October 14, 1848; came to this country when 13 years of age, settling first in Wisconsin. Came to Kansas in the 70’s and to Decatur county in 1885; living on a farm in Summit township 11 miles south of Oberlin. Later he bought a farm near Dresden and few years ago, bought a residence property in Leoville, where he lived until his death.

In 1880 [5 Apr 1880] Joseph Meitl married [Eve Lunkenheimer]. Ten children were born to this union, five boys [Henry, Joseph, Frank, John, and Albert] and five girls [Katherine, Mary, Louise, Margaret and Anna]; all of whom are living except ALBERT, who died in July 1915.

All of the children were present at the funeral held at the church in Leoville, July 3rd, except Henry Meitl, of Portland, Ore., and Mrs. Kate Meitl Kaus, of Idaho, who were unable to be present.

Those left to mourn are the wife, nine children, grandchildren and numerous friends around Leoville and Dresden.

Surely a good man has gone to his reward.
