One of County’s Oldest Residents Dies

Mrs. Margaret Brown of Bassettville Dies At Age of 94

Decatur county lost one of its very oldest residents, if not its oldest, last Sunday evening, in the death of Mrs. Margaret Brown, the mother of Wesley Kahlor and J. H. Brown.  She had made her home in Decatur county with the latter for the past twenty-eight years.

Margaret Wagner was born in Essen , Germany , Nov. 17, 1835, and died at the home of J. H. Brown in Bassettville township, July 27, at 7:30 p.m., aged 94 years, 8 months and 10 days.

She came with her parents to America when ten years of age, locating at Portage City , Wisc., where later she was married to John Andrew Kahlor and to this union eight children were born.  After the death of Mr. Kahlor she was married to Joseph Brown, and to them were born three children.  Of these eleven children, three survive her: W. L. Kahlor, Oberlin; Mrs. E. J. Millen, Kansas City , Mo. ; and J. H. Brown, Selden , Kans.

She was united with the M. E. church and adhered to its doctrine and discipline until called home.  The activities of her years may be briefly summarized by saying, “She hath done what she could.”

Funeral services were held at the home Monday afternoon at three o’clock; burial in Bassettville cemetery.
