Funeral services for Robert Lowell Johnston were held Jan. 28 from the Cope Community church with Delmar Anderson and Roger Sellen officiating.  Burial was in the Cope Community Cemetery.
Robert Lowell Johnston, oldest son of Marvin and Ada Wilson Johnston, was born February 28, 1916 in Decatur County, Kan.  He died Jan. 23, 1974 at Mineral Wells, Tex., after undergoing surgery one week earlier.  He had been in failing health for the past several months.
Most of his life was spent in the Seibert and Cope Communities where he was engaged in farming and trucking, later moving to near Cortex for several years.
In 1967, he moved to Bethune, and operated a refrigeration business in Burlington until his health forced him to retire.
He moved to Mineral Wells in September of last year in an effort to better his health and, for a time, seemed to improve.
He was married to the former Anna Johnson of Selbert in 1938.  To this union was born 3 children:
Cecelia Kay, who died at the age of 3 years; Gary and Aron, both serving in the United States Navy.
He was married to Jeff Woody on June 30, 1962, living for a time in Fort Defiance, Ariz., later returning to eastern Colorado.
He was fond of nature and enjoyed fishing and hunting.  He was always willing to assist those who were in need.
He is survived by his widow, Jeff, eight children:
Gary; Aron; Mrs. Betsy June Rose, Ligonier, Ind; Mrs. Betty Irene Haney, Monahans, Tex; Mrs. Mary Lee Garner, Stratton, Colo; Evelyn Sue Crites, Bethune; William Calvin Vicars, Denver; and Lowell Dwayne of the home.
Surviving also are his father, Marvin Johnston, Cope; six brothers and sisters; Lois Seifert, Loveland; Marion, BEthune; Ruby Scott, Buhl, ID; Carroll, Burlington; Keith, Chinle, Ariz; and Kenneth, Cope; 18 grandchildren, several aunts, uncles, neices and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Cecelia in 1942, and his mother in June of last year.
He will be sadly missed by his family and his many friends.
