Don't know if he's related or not, but thought I would pass along the
following:

from the book, "Norcatur Centennial 1886 - 1986"
"Samuel Cope Venrick was born in Ohio in 1857 and died in 1921.  Martha
Day Venrick was born in 1859 in Rensselear, Indiana and died in Norcatur
in 1952.  They were married in 1879 in Indiana.  Sam ran the Central
Grainers Elevator in Norcatur and was also a paper hanger and did
cement work, building the sidewalks in Norcatur.  Martha was the
community nurse, she followed her profession throughout her life, she
never neglected her family, but always found time to help a neighbor or
friend and was called on frequently."

There is also a short bio of a daughter, Florence Venrick Ward.  Let me
know if you want that one, too

Query:

My grandmother and grandfather were married in Norton, but both
families had homes in Norcatur, Decatur County.  My grandmother, Mattie
Vernon (b. 1909) was the daughter of Clint and Emma Vernon, who were
well known around those parts. My grandfather, Floyd David Shepard was
the son of John D. Shepard and Cora Mason Shepard who had come to
Kansas from Indiana.  They had an older son, Carl Mason Shepard. The
father and /or possibly sons owned a service station during the teens or
twenties.  John D. Shepard (b. 1874) died young-he had a neurological
disease that he passed on to his sons- and Cora remarried a man named
Wickham.  In the thirties the entire family (including my grandmother)
moved west to Colorado and eventually Washington State.  But I still would
like to find the final resting place of John D. Shepard, and what became of
him through his illness.  In fact, I do not even have a year for his death.
If anyone has any clues for me I'd be most grateful.

Dennis,

i am afraid i am no use to you, you may be very helpful to me. The
Vernon's in Decatur County are, for me at least, a tangled up group.  I
know my grandfather, Ray(mond?) Vernon lived there and raised a family
of 5 with his wife Alice. After that I am in the dark.

Any information would be *greatly* appreciated.
