Albert Davis, 92, died September 11, 2002 at Dawson Place in Hill City, Ks. He was born James Albert Arthur Quinn on May 6, 1910 in Chicago, Illinois. He spent his first 18 months of his life in the Chicago Fondling Home. He was adopted in November of 1912 by Fremont Alton & Lizzie Matilda (McCarrel) Davis. His father was a free Methodist minister & rode the circuit while the family lived in various small towns in southern Nebraska & northern Kansas. Later they moved back to Graham Township near Hill City, Kansas, where his father farmed the land his mother had homesteaded in 1881. Albert attended the Silver Creek County School through 8th grade. Up on his fatherâs death in 1926, he took over the farm northwest of Hill City. His mother died in 1931.

On March 8, 1930, Albert married Margaret Katherine Rhor in WaKeeney, Kansas. To this union were born two sons: James Lavern Davis & Cleon Matthew Davis. In 1947 the family moved to a home in Hill City, on Third Avenue. In 1980, Albert & Margaret celebrated a 50th. Wedding anniversary. Albert retired from farming in the early 1980âs. Margaret Davis preceded him in death on September 12, 1980. On February 15, 1986, Albert married Vera (Daniels) Fabricius, Longtime neighbor & family friend. They lived in their home on Tenth Avenue in Hill City until June 2002, when they became residents at Dawson Place.

Albert was a faithful member of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church of Hill City & was one of a group who formed the first parish. In 2002, he received the the Outstanding Catholic Award. Albert was a charter member of Hill City Knights of Columbus #5631, given Honorary Life Membership, & was a 4th. Degree Knight. He was a member of the Hill City Elks Lodge No. 1995 & a Life Member of the FFA Alumni. Albert was a successful farmer & stockman, raising some of the first Charolais cattle in the county. He received the Graham County Conservation Award in 1952. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Margaret; his son, Cleon; & daughter-in-law Lois Davis of Hoxie; 9 grandchildren; other relatives; & friends.

A rosary service was held on Sunday, September 16, 2002, at 7:30 p.m. & a Mass of Christian Burial on Monday, September 16, 2002, at 10:00 a.m. in Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, Hill City. Father Bill Kilian, Msgr. Clement Kruse & Father James Grennan Concelebrated the Mass with Rev. Howard Guidry & Rev. Sam [missing a few words at the end on my copy of obituary] Burial in Memorial Lawn Cemetery
