History of Otego

Otego

The village of Otego was located three miles north and three-fourths east of Crisfield. The legal description being northeast one-fourth of section 4, township 33 south, range 9 west. According to the 1886 Atlas of Harper County the land belonged to O. C. Hooker.

Ira Crow, now of Anthony, was born near Otego. At that time there was a store and post office. The storekeeper was a Mr. Rankin. A woman M.D. had an office there. She ushered Mr. Crow into the world.

The post office was established November 23, 1882 and was discontinued February 27, 1885. The first postmaster was George W. Clark. The post office was moved to Crisfield.
