Kellas School
Kellas School was located at SE 12th Street & Hillside Road. The
original wood frame building was
moved to the grounds of the Harvey County Historical Society in Newton, where it
can be visited today. The newer brick building was built in 1919 and
remains standing today. It could be beautifully restored.
Kellas School Notes
(The Evening Kansan-Republican, Newton, Kansas. Thursday, Sept 26,
1935).
- Mrs. Lucille Hayden, county music supervisor, made the first visit to
Kellas, Friday, Sept. 18. The eleven pupils who made perfect scores in the
tone tests which she gave were Ruth Andres, Mary Fenton, Odessa Adler, Harold
Andres, Richard Suderman, Lorene Porter, Willard Entz, Bernice Porter, Birdie
Loucks, Donna Johnson, and Robert Suderman.
- Miss Sue Thimm, county superintendent, visited Kellas school Monday.
- Frederick Adler was absent from school Friday.
- The seventh and eighth grades are now completing the unit on
transportation and Willard Entz brought for his part of the exhibit a
Conestoga wagon. The boys of the two classes are collecting pictures and
articles on the subject while the girls are making wall hangings.
- Kellas school as included a windowbox full of beautiful flowers and plants
in the plans for beautifying the grounds and the school house. Those who
contributed plants are Ruth Andres, Daniel Hauck, Mary Fenton, Odessa Adler,
and Berdie Loucks.
Stone School
Stone School was located at NE 12th Street & North Oliver.
