I am beginning my research for my mother's family. Her father's side was the McCormick family. They lived on a farm outside of Esbon, Kansas. Her grandfather's name was Andrew Harrison McCormick b 10-15-1885 & he married Lottie Bell. I know they had sons. My grandfather's name was LeRoy Vaden McCormick. All of the boys were born at home. I am looking for dates of death for both, married date, and birth date for Lottie and any connections.

Thanks

Topic: Munday
From: Joan Skaggs longsac@gte.net
Date: Sunday, April 23, 2000 12:52 PM

I know my ggrandfather, James R. Munday, lived in Mankato in 1898. He divorced my ggrandmother, Harriett/Hattie McCrady Munday in Smith County ( where she lived) in 1898. He put one of his daughters, Daisey Munday, in the Beloit School for girls, and one of his sons, Charles Robert Munday, in juvenile hall in Topeka, also in 1898. I can't find James beyond that time. There was one more daughter but can't find her listed anywhere. I've been told that her name was Frances. I sent for the divorce papers hoping to find the children listed, but they were not mentioned.

I would appreciate any information that you might be able to provide me with. Thank You.

Topic: McCarthy in Mankato
From: Joyce Gibson flag14@aol.com
Date: Wednesday, April 05, 2000 11:20 PM

Am searching for descendents of Charles McCarthy, Jr.who was a "hardware merchant" in Mankato in 1894.

I know he was there as late as 1905. This was the year that his brother Michael was murdered in Kaukauna, WI. Charles is mentioned in newspaper articles from WI at the time of the trial.

I believe Charles Jr. was originally from WI as his father lived there and family member who died earlier are buried there.

If you are connected to this family or have any information, please email me.

Thanks for any help you can provide.

Topic: DAVIS
From: Carol Shaw paradise@wmonline.com
Date: Monday, April 03, 2000 03:29 PM

I am searching for information on a DAVIS family that lived in North Branch. Mordak L. DAVIS b. 1827 d. 1896 in Burr Oak, m. Mary Ann b. 1829 d. 1889 in Burr Oak. They had at least two children that I know of. W. M. DAVIS was a son and Sarah Jane DAVIS b. 1857 d. 1884 in North Branch, m. Walter BEESON. Mordak, Mary Ann and Sarah are all buried at North Branch Cemetery across from the Quaker Church. The DAVIS's were all born in South Carolina according to census records. Thank you for your time. I'm not familiar with this Davis family, however, check the Quaker records for them by inquiry at the Quaker church across their cemetery. Davis and Beeson's are long time Quaker related surnames. Their priority migrations were from the Carolina's to Ohio, then to IN or ILL. An inquiry on the QUAKER-ROOTS@ rootsweb.com will probably produce results or at least get you closer. Searches of Hinshaw's American Encyclopedia of Quaker History would be productive also. Some of it can be located on ancestry.com. Good luck.

I would like to find out how far back Jewell County records go for deaths. My great-great grandfather died in North Branch, outside of Mankato township in 1889 and I would like to try and find records of his death. It this possible?

From: Ardie Grimes mad_genealogist@yahoo.com
Date: Friday, March 31, 2000 06:17 PM

I found record of the deaths of my grandfather's siblings in 1891 in Jewell County, so maybe you can find your family also. The record is incomplete, unofficial, and covers October 1886 to December 1894. It is the "Register of Births, Marriages & Deaths" located in the Register of Deeds Office at the Jewell County courthouse. Birth records are indexed; marriage and death records are not indexed.

The address is Anna Lou Morgan, Deputy Register of Deeds, Jewell County Courthouse, Mankato, KS Phone 785-378-4070

A search fee of $5.00 per hour plus photocopy charges is indicated on the policy. They ask that you either inquire about costs or indicate a willingness to be billed.

Good luck, Ardie

If there are no courthouse records, you might try looking in old newspapers for Mankato, most of which seemed to have been microfilmed and are available from the Kansas State Historical Society through interlibrary loan. Deaths were commonly reported in the local newspaper.

Probate records are also available at the Court House in Mankato.

Topic: James Martin Green - George Green
From: Gerald allen Green gagreen@mediaone.net
Date: Thursday, March 16, 2000 06:21 PM

My father was James Martin Green, born in 1881 in Jewell Co., I believe. His father was George Green, who immigrated there at about the time of my father's birth. The family story was that my father was born in a "dugout," a kind of sod house, because the family's arrival was late enough in the year not to permit of building a proper sod house. I don't know the name of my paternal grandmother; she died long before I was born, and my grandfather had a second wife, named Grace, who is the "grandmother" I remember. Several times during the 1930's I recall visiting those grandparents, who then lived in Boulder, CO, where I believe my grandfather was living when he died at age 90 or so. On 11 December 1912 my father married my mother, Alpha Pearl Allen, of Scotsville, Mitchell Co., KS. He died in Los Angeles, CA, in about 1958.

If you know anything about this family, I would appreciate hearing about it. Thank you.

John BURNS came to Jewell Co. about 1872. He was born in 1831 in Delaware county, NY. He married Jane LOVE in 1864 in Walton, NY. They had two children, Edgar A. and Luella. Edgar A. was born in Maryland in 1868 and Luella was born in 1874 in Kansas (probably Jewell Co.) Luella married Charles Davis and they had at least one child, Sylvia in 1900.

John BURNS died bef 1900 and I need a death date for him. His wife, Jane died after 1900 and I need a death date for her. I don't know what happened to Edgar BURNS- did he die in Jewell Co. or move to some other state? Anymore information on these families would be appreciated.
