HELP! I am searching for my grt grt Grandfathers family. Berry Baker married Lorana "Bea"Brooks Neville born in Hart KY.in 1843. Their Baker children were Charles, James, Eldora"Dora",Rose Ann"Rosanna",Sara, Puss and my grt Grandfather George Amos Baker who was born July , 1876 in Jewell County, Kansas and he lived there for about twenty years. George Baker married Ruth E. Kemp in Gaylord Kansas and they had the following children: George Victor, Earl, Nelly, and my Grandfather Frank Leland Baker. Lorana was known to go by Mrs. Bea Baker and was said to have died in Cripple Creek, Teller County Colorado in the early 1900's. George's family went to Sweetwater OK and then up to Springfield, CO. Does anyone know my family? Thank you Tami Baker Dean deanteam1@earthlink.net

I am seeking information on my great-grandfather, Benjamin Franklin Kelsey. I believe he usually went by Frank. He was married to Malanda? They are both buried in Wallace Cemetery in Mankato. His children were Jane Ann, Emma M., Ellen E., James Franklin, Ameretta (married Burton Furey in Jewell County), William H. (married Onono Estella Rogers in Jewell Co.), Laura Estella (married George Elvin Spaulding in Jewell County - my grandparents), John M. (married Mary McMinnevey in Jewell County), and Edward (married Althia L. Gann in Jewell Co.). Frank was born in New York and I believe his Mother's name was Esther. He had a brother names James (married to Alzina) who was in the hotel business in Jewell County. Any information on this family would be greatly appreciated. If you prefer, you can email me direct at shirleytolbert@cox.net. Thanks.

Since I posted this message earlier, I was reading Jewell County History and noted that my great-uncle, James Kelsey, built the first hotel in Jewell County in 1871. It was called the Jewell House. In 1872, he built a second hotel. It did not give the name of that one.

Topic: Descendants of Isaiah Ferdinand Dunn (of Formoso)
From: Trace Dunn trace.dunn@worldonline.fr
Date: Sunday, May 05, 2002 03:59 PM
Fellow Researchers,
Isaiah Ferdinand Dunn was born in 1851 and farmed in Formoso, Jewell County, Kansas. He married Emily "Emma" Spaulding in Scioto County, Ohio in April 1873. She was born in 1856. Their known children are:
1. Elliot (Ellet, Ellet) Dunn who married Sadie (Dunn)
2. Wilbur(n) Lee Dunn (1879-1953) who married Mary (Marie?) E. Biard (1882-1968)
3. Ida Bell Dunn (1880-1938/9) who married Joshua T. Clark
4. Charles C. "Charley" Dunn (1883-1956) who married 1st Alta May Copeland (1886/7-1919)
2nd Jessie Unknown (her first marriage to Wald)
5. Leander Cox Dunn (1884-1931) who married Sophia Korber (1884-1952)
6. Nora May Dunn (1885-1962) who married 1st Andrew Michael Clark (d. before 1933)
2nd Dr. Michael Payne (d. 1933)
7. Minnie Dunn who married Earl Stafford
8. Fred Lee Dunn (1895-1974) who married Zerilda P. Stone (b. 1897)
9. John Dunn (b. 1900/1) who married unknown (Dunn)
10. James E. Dunn (d. before 1910)
11. Lee Dunn (d. before 1910)
This information is incomplete, and I would very much like to be contacted by any descendants of these people. The "Clark" lines (Andrew Michael Clark and Joshua T. Clark) are quite extensive and yet I know little about their side.
I myself am descended from John F.B. Dunn, who was born in Virginia in 1861, and who was a brother to Isaiah F. Dunn.
Both Isaiah and Emma are buried in the Caldwell Cemetery in Formoso. He died in 1917 and Emma died in 1933.
I hope to hear from you.
Trace Dunn

Did you get your information on the Lovewell name ?? This is a pretty prominent family in the history of Jewell County. My great uncle wrote a book that was based on Thomas Lovewell's early discovery of and later settling in the White Rock Valley. The book is based on the diary kept by Thomas'wife, Orel Jane (Davis) Lovewell.

This is to ISSYROG@AOL.COM. I tried sending to this address and it bounced back. If anyone knows this person or the name Josine Pederson, Please contact me.
I saw your query from back in April 2000. Not sure if we have corresponded previously. My gg grandmother was Emma Olena Pederson, born near Burr Oak in Jewell County, Kansas, 4/28/1882(?). At the age of 15, Emma apparently went to work at the state asylum for the insane in Topeka, Kansas. There were apparently about 13 siblings in this family. Names as I have down are : Petter O., Andreas M., Ingebor E., Ingemann A., Alfred O.D., Ada, Dolthea, Emil, George, Adolph D (may be the Alfred previously mentioned), Gilbert, Mary, Emma Olena, & Chris. My thought is that Josine was the daughter of one of Emma's older brothers. Have you any information that may tie us together? EmmaÕs parents were Ole and Ane who came over from Norway in about 1870 with several of their children, the rest were born in Wisconsin and Kansas.

I'm looking for information on my gg-grandparents, Monterville John Cook, his wife Emma Fahrney, and any descendents of their children, especially Roy Vernon and Milo Cook. Monterville moved to Jewell Co. in 1889 with his wife Emma Fahrney (I have their lineage for anyone interested), and lived in and around Burr Oak until his death in 1932. He is buried in Burr Oak cemetery. He originally settled on the Mahoney farm, bought and moved to the Singer farm, and then moved into town. Reportedly, he was among the organizers of the Jewell Co. National Bank of Burr Oak, served on the board, and held the offices of Vice-President and President. He instituted the Burr Oak Mill, Elevator, and Ice Co. in 1913, and supposedly was elected Mayor for one term. He was a member of the Church of the Brethren. Roy Vernon moved to El Paso, TX; Milo stayed in the Burr Oak area. Any additional information, photographs, documents, letters, etc. would be appreciated.
