1. THOMAS2 DODD (THOMAS1 DODD?) was born 26 Apr 1819 in Liverpool, Lancashire, England, and died Abt. Nov 1856 in Near Platte River Crossing, Casper, WY. He married ELIZABETH PEARSON 25 Dec 1844 in Liverpool parish Church, Liverpool, England, daughter of JOHN PEARSON and ANN PEARSON. She was born 10 Feb 1817 in Broome, Straffordshire, England, and died 1901 in Netawaka. KS.

Notes for THOMAS DODD:
Thomas, his wife Elizabeth and five children came to the U.S. from Liverpool, England in 1856 on the ship Horizon with the huge immigration of the Church of Latter Day Saints. They rode the train as far as Florence Iowa (now Iowa City and were on the fifth Handcart trip to Utah led by Edward Martin, late in the year. Thomas  froze to death near the Platte river Crossing at Casper, Wyoming, or in western Nebraska.  Elizabeth and the children went on to Utah and then  to Atchison, KS. in 1858.
They were unable to pay their own passage so the Mormon's financed their transportation with the Perpetual Emigration Fund. Franklin D. Richards was the Church name on the document. They lived at 32 Robert Street, Toxteth Park, Liverpool, England just before they left. Thomas was employed as a carter or caster possibly on the docks at Liverpool, England.  Elizabeth and the children were rescued on the trail from Martin's Cove and transported to Utah. She married George Chick in Utah. His wife had died and they must have left the Utah area at night as reported by one of the children to his grandchildren. I do not have any proof of George and Elizabeth's wedding. I just find them living together near Atchison, KS. on the 1860 census. I have a census record of George Chick and children and his wife Mahala in Utah in 1855 . They were converts from England on the Channel Islands.
TOXTETH PARK, is adjoining on the S. and S.E. of Liverpool and  is in the parish of Walton, under which it has a chapel of ease: patron, the rector of Walton. There is also a dissenting chapel in this township
