In 1939 and 1940, the Lincoln Sentinel-Republican ran a series of articles by Thelma J. McMullen entitled "Hats Off to the Builders of Lincoln County." McMullen interviewed some of the men and women who helped settle and shape Lincoln County, Kansas. Many were in the final years of their lives. Most were among the very earliest settlers who came in the late 1860s and early 1870s, when the county was a vast prairie, and stayed through tornados, grasshoppers, dust bowls and hard times. Here is a list of the sketches currently available.
