Spring
Valley
School

Lincoln Sentinel-Republican, 1974

At one time there were many rural schools in Lincoln County and for their size their attendance was large.
Spring Valley School, District No. 11, in Valley Township, 12 miles southwest of Lincoln, was no exception.
In the above photo [note: photo would not reproduce well] are the 20 students and their teacher, Ethyle Hundertmark, taken during the 1918-1919 school year.
Pupils were: Darlene Hundertmark, Ward Davis, Esther Panzer, Paul Mannel, Herman Panzer;
Dorothy Davis, Inez Schroeder, Mabel Schroeder, Walter Wolford, Raymond Zier;
Arthur Mannel, Lena Wachs, Ralph Davis, Elsie Panzer, Fred Wachs;
Minnie Panzer, Theodore Panzer, Harvey Warner, Albert Wachs and Alma Wachs.
Members of the school board were Rudolph Meili, John Kobbeman and Fred Zier.
The one room native stone building served the community many years before a new school was built one mile south. The new building was used but a short number of years when school consolidation came into being and the children were bused to Lincoln.
