Obituary of BENJAMIN F. BARRETT
Benjamin F. Barrett, 84, longtime teacher and counselor in the Florence school system, died July 26, 2000, at his home in Florence. 

Born Jan. 20, 1916, at Topeka, he was the son of the late Benjamin and Myrtle (Jackson) Barrett. 
He grew up in Topeka and graduated from Highland Park High School and Washburn University. He earned a master's degree from the University of Kansas.  On March 19, 1938, he was married to Ella Mae Hopkins at Topeka. The couple had two sons, Tom and Ben. 

The Barretts moved to Florence in 1940 where he taught in the school system many years and also was a school counselor. He was a member of Florence Christian Church and taught Sunday school class for 40 years. 

Survivors include his wife, Ella Mae, of the home; sons, Tom of Parsons and Ben of Topeka; four grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. 
Services were held Saturday afternoon at Florence Christian Church with the Rev. Harold Brown officiating. Lorene Brown was the pianist. 

Casket bearers were Harold Triggs, Dewy Stevens, Harold Huntley, Dan Barrett, Eric Barrett, and Ryan Barrett. Burial was in Hillcrest Cemetery. 
Memorial funds have been established in his name at the church and with Florence Ambulance Service.
