Obituary of GEORGE L. RIFFEL
George L. Riffel, 92, Woodbine, died Dec. 17, 2000, at Memorial Hospital in Abilene.
Born May 1, 1908, near Woodbine, he was the son of Isaac Ira and Julia (Longhofer) Riffel.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Shady Brook (north of Herington), with Pastor Alan Stahlecker officiating. Burial will be in the Woodbine Cemetery.

A farmer-stockman, he was a pioneer in raising Polled Hereford cattle. He also was one of the organizers of the Tri-County Fair Association in 1948 and served on the board many years.

He was married to Sophia K. Sader June 18, 1933, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Ramona. She died June 23, 1982.

Survivors include a son, Eugene Riffel of Woodbine; four daughters, Carol Troisi of Somerville, N.J., Janis Bell of Wichita, Rose Beneke of Winchester, Va., and Patricia Gilbert of Topeka; brother, Clayton Riffel of Hope; 10 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
Memorial funds have been established at Immanuel Lutheran Church of Shady Brook and the American Diabetes Association.
