That is because "handsome is as handsome does." Gus is one of the cleverest, most courteous and obliging fellows you ever met-one of those young men you always want to shake hands with and give him your business if possible. And he is always after business for the Great Rock Island Route, too, ever hustling and keeping a keen eye open for stock shipments, laundry business or any old thing that increases the business for his road. Though he is still young, Mr. Thompson has risen to a responsible position and enjoys the trust and confidence of the company, which he serves. He has been with the Rock Island for seven years as station agent, and during that time has held two stations-a pretty good record for faithfulness. He came here from Okarche, Oklahoma, Dec. 6, 1899 and took charge of the Rock Island station. Since that time he has done much to build up the business of that road by his never failing courtesy and energy. When he came it only needed one man and a helper to handle the business. Now it needs three men. To tell the truth about the matter, we like Gus Thompson and so does everyone else in town-including one or two very pretty girls. We don't know that Gus is on the matrimonial market, but the girl that does get him will get a mighty fine fellow.
