Out in rural Marshall County, KS between Blue Rapids and the former site of Irving, there is a (cemetery style) marker which reads "ORIGINAL DUGOUT HOME of William FINCHAM Sr. and wife Mary COBB, 1876. He was born in Athebourgh, England and she in England. Parents of 12 children, Bessie, Sarah, James, William, Jr., Isaac, Tom, Maggie, Gertie, Stephen, Richard, Alice, Kate. I'm not a relative, but am quite curious about this family's story. The marker lies in a corner of a pasture next to what my family has always called "Indian Hill". Any information about this family is welcome!

PORTER, BAKER, and WARD are the families I am looking for. About 1860 Hiram BAKER and his wife Mary came to Marshall County. With them was their married daughter Martha Ann and her husband A. O. PORTER and their baby girl Helen Mary. Also with them was their son Thomas BAKER, and a second married daughter Mary Anna with her husband Silas WARD. All three families took up homesteads in Blue Rapids Township, which were subsequently sold for back taxes. Hiram BAKER died in 1863, Thomas BAKER became a KS senator. The PORTER and WARD families left to go farther west. I need ANY info on these families, when they left, where they went, etc.
