"We regret to announce the death of R. F. Walker which occurred at his home, four and a half miles northwest of Fontana, on Wednesday of last week, the 4th inst. An illness of long duration caused from hemorrhage of the lungs was what led to his death. The deceased was born in Tredwell county, N. C., on February 15th, 1836, and would have been 57 years old next month. He was married in Paola in 1871 and for about five years lived just east of town after which he moved to Osage township where he remained up to the time of his death. He leaves a wife and family of ten children besides countless friends to mourn his death.

Mr. Walker was a good citizen, an excellent neighbor, a good husband and a kind and indulgent father which when truthfully said of any man covers about the whole list of virtues attributable to him. Death must come and it is not for us to question its choice through its blight bear heavily upon us. Mr. Walker had the respect of everybody and the sympathy of all is extended to relatives thus bereft.

Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Howard at the Walker homestead and a large concourse of relatives and sorrowing friends followed all that was earthly of Mr. Walker to his place of interment, the cemetery east of S. S. Whiteford's. May he rest in peace."

"P. H. Self, father of S. L. Self, of this city, died at his home, one mile east of Hillsdale, on Wednesday of this week from a complication of diseases combined with advanced age. He had been in been in poor health for several months and seeing that death was inevitable, had settled up all his business affairs. He remained fully conscious up to the hour of his death.

The deceased was born in Montgomery county, Kentucky, in August, 1819, and at the age of five years moved with his parents to Greensburgh, Ind., where he resided until 1868. He was married in 1844 to Miss Elmira H. Morgan who died in December, 1865. Three years later he was again married to Catherine B. Perry, who now survives him. In May, 1868, he came to Kansas and settled upon the homestead where he died. Mr. Self was a man of marked characteristics. He was an honorable man in every sense and commanded the respect of everybody. He was a useful citizen, a thrifty farmer, a good neighbor and an admirable husband. By dint of economy and of a provident turn he accumulated considerable property and was enabled to spend the latter years of his life in comparative ease and comfort. Few men were better prepared to meet death then he. He had been a member of the Christian church thirty-three years.

The funeral services were held at 2 o'clock p.m. yesterday at the Christian church in Hillsdale and the funeral services was preached by Rev. B. T. Wharton, of Paola. The funeral was attended by many sorrowing friends. To the bereft wife and son we extend our sincerest sympathy."

"Died"

"February 3d, 1893, at her home in Fontana, with the grippe, Mrs. Cora Morrison, wife of James Morrison of that place. Cora, as she was familiarly known, was a daughter of Mrs. J. L. McCain of Stanton-twp. Besides her husband and two little boys, she leaves a mother, brothers and sisters, with numerous friends and schoolmates to mourn her death. Cora was a lady of true, womanly courage, in the ardouous work of rearing and caring for loved ones at home. She was charitable and good to all and she will be sadly missed for no family has ever bereft of a more noble, pure and devoted mother. The funeral took place Sunday, February 5th, at the Fontana Cemetery.

"Mrs. Mary Ricketts was born in Indiana in July 18th, 1872, and died at Kansas City, Mo., March 17th, 1893. She came to Miami county in 1884 with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ephraim Harrold. She was married to James Ricketts in Stanton township in 1891. Mrs. Ricketts leaves a husband and baby, Walter, aged 10 months. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. Robert Sherar, of Stanton at the Presbyterian church at Paola, March 19th."

"Mr. Sanford George Sponable, brother of John W. Sponable, died in Chicago on the 18th inst. of paralysis, aged 55 years and 10 months, and was buried in this city on Sunday, the 21st inst.

The deceased was born in Openheim, Fulton county, New York, July 19th, 1837. He came to Gardner, Johnson county, Kansas, in 1857, and afterward went to Leavenworth, where he carried on a general merchandise business, the firm being Church and Sponable. After several years of successful operations in Leavenworth he located in Kansas City and engaged in the jewelry trade. About six years ago when stricken with creeping paralysis, Mr. Sponable went to Chicago for treatment and there he died. He leaves a large estate estimated by knowing ones at a half a million dollars and the greater part of it he willed to his mother, Mrs. E. A. Sponable, of this city, though other relatives were well remembered. He was never married.

The burial in our city cemetery was largely attended, many being here from a distance. Mr. Sponable was an exemplary member of the Episcopal church."
