"Mrs. Mary E. McCain, aged 54, died at her home in Stanton township on December 21st, 1899, and was buried in the Bethel Chapel cemetery the 22nd. She had been steadily going down with cancer for months and death was a relief to her. Mrs. McCain was highly respected by all who knew her."

"Mrs. Mary McCain, wife of the late John McCain, died Thursday, Dec. 21, at her home on her farm in Stanton twp., after a lingering illness with cancer. Her age was nearly sixty years. Mrs. McCain came to this county form McLean Co. Ill., about 1863, and since her husband's death twelve years ago, she successfull managed dher farm and raised her family. She suffered much during her long illness, but was conscious to the last. She was a fithful Christian, a member of the Cumberland Presbyterian church. She leaves a family of five childre, three daughters and two sons. The funeral services, conducted by Rev. Robert Sherar, wre held at Spring Ridge church, Saturday morning, at 10 o'clock"

"Thomas W. Officer died at his home in Marysville township the 13 inst., aged fifty-five years, one month and eighteen days. He leaves a wife and the following brothers and sisters: W. P. Officer, Hillsdale; Mrs. Sarah E. Jennings, Bourbon county; J. F. Officer and Mrs. Margaret Sanders, Fredonia; Mrs. Mary Whelan, Colorado Springs; H. H. Officer, Hillsdale; J. L. and M. A. Officer, Reading; Mrs. M. J. McClaren, Wagstaff; Mrs. Laura S. Sanders and E. P. Officer, Reading, Kansas; and Mrs. B. A. Threlkeld, Golconda, Colorado.

The deceased had been sick with stomach trouble about three years. Rev. R. H. Sherar, of the Cumberland Presbyterian church, conducted the burial services last Thursday and interment was in the Hillsdale cemetery.

He was a good man, of a good family, who was a useful and honored citizen."
