Obituary of William Pittman (1810-1904), Mound Twp., Miami Co., KS. Information provided by Arleta Howe, ArletaHowe@aol.com, 3 February 2002.

(Reference: Parker Weekly Message, Parker, KS, 23 Jan 1904) "William Pittman was born Nov 15th 1810 in Lancaster Co., VA, Died Jan 15th, 1904, aged 93 years, 2 months and 2 days. He united with the church of the Disciples of Christ in his early manhood and ever endeavered to live a Christian life.

He was a loving father and a devoted husband, he leaves seven children, a host of grand children and many friends to mourn his loss.

His wife and our mother preceeded him to the spirit land one year lacking eleven days. They had walked through life as one person for sixty-one years...they were as one, in death they are one, and our prayer is that they may be one in the great beyond where mortal eye had not yet seen."

(Reference: The Western Spirit, Paola, KS, 22 Jan 1904, p 1) "The death of William Pittman at his home near Beagle on the 15th last, takes from the rapidly decreasing ranks of pioneers one of the grandest men of Miami county. He was in his ninety-fourth year and retained all his mental vigor till the last. He came to Kansas in 1857, lived his useful life in two townships--Osage and Mound. The funeral on Sunday was the largest known for many years. Mrs. Pittman died several years ago."

p 8 "Grandpa Pittman died at his home Friday night of last week at the advanced age of 93 years. He was buried in the Mound Creek cemetery Sunday. Rev. Pearatt, of Parker, delivered the funeral sermon. Henry Pittman and wife, of Oklahoma came up last week to attend the funeral and to see about settling up the estate before his return."
