"Mrs. Fort Dead."

"Mrs. Anna Fort died Tuesday, January 19, at the home of her son, Harve Fort, in Somerset. She was in her 74th year. She was a native of England, coming to America with her parents, to New Jersey, when a child. She grew to womanhood and was married there to John FORT in 1855. A year later they went to Stephens, Wisconsin (Stevens Point, WI), from where they removed to Kansas City in 1861, and in 1863 to Paola. Her husband worked at this trade here as a carpenter until 1867, when they moved to a farm in Middle Creek-twp., where they raised their family and both parents spent their remaining years. Her husband died in 1886."

"Mrs. Fort lived here at a time when the trials and troubles on the eastern border were many, and through years of self-denial they bore them bravely. She is survived by four sons and two daughters, G. W. and Charles H. Fort at Stafford, Kas., W. A. and Harve Fort, in the east part of the county, Mrs. Jane Hamlin, wife of Alex Aamlin [sic] of Paola, and Mrs. Lizzie Buddie of Mountain Grove, Mo."

"The funeral services were held Thursday at the church at Somerset. The remains were buried in the McNelly cemetery."

"A Sad Death"

"Mrs. Anna Fort died at her home in Middle Creek township, following a stroke of paralysis, Tuesday morning. She was 78 years old the day she died. The funeral services held from the Methodist church in Somerset yesterday, were largely attended. The interment was in the McNelly cemetery, in Middle Creek township."

"The deceased was a native of England coming to this country when a child. Fifty-five years ago at Philadelphia, Pa., she was united in marriage to John Fort. In 1857 she located in this county and has lived here ever since. Her husband died twenty years ago. She was among the first settlers in this county. Her life has always been an exemplary one and marked by kind deeds."

"The following children survive her: G. W. Fort of Stafford, Kansas; Mrs. Alex Hamlin, of this city; C. H. Fort of Stafford, Kansas; H. Fort, of Somerset, Kansas, and Mrs. C. H. Buddy, of Mountain Grove, Mo."
