"Mrs. Dena Susanna Edwards, widow of Rev. J. N. Edwards, of Kansas Conference, United Brethren church, was born in Iowa, July 12, 1866 and died at Enid, Oklahoma, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. R. G. Trent, Tuesday, June 24, 1930. When a child of two years she migrated with her parents, Benjamin and Lucy Smith, to Kansas, locating on a farm near New Lancaster, in Miami county. Here she spent her childhood and youthful days, made the acquaintance of Mr. J. N. Edwards with whom whe was united in marriage, a union which was most congenial and happy thoughout their lives. They were blessed with four children, Myrtle Vesta, who departed this life in young manhood (sic) at the age of nineteen years; Grace E., wife of Rev. R. G. Trent, Superintendent of Oklahoma U. B. Conference; Castle J., in educational work in Colorado; and Lena Lucile, wife of O. P. Humbert, of California. Soon after their marriage Mr. and Mrs. Edwards located on a claim, near Cimarron, Kansas, where they resided for five years. Having felt the call to the ministry the couple responded and mutually entered upon their life work, Mrs. Edwards sharing in full measure her part in the sacrifices incident to the work which was then for the most part missionary in character. Two years spent in the Lane University at Lecompton, Kansas, followed by thirty years of more in the itinerant ministry. Some of the charges served were Beaumont, Turon, Kingman, Sterling and Mulvane. Failing health of Brother Edwards caused them to retire from the active ministry in 1922 and they located in Wichita, Kansas, where the family home had continued. Rev. Edwards was called to his heavenly home February 12, 1927, and since that time Sister Edwards has made her home with her daughters most of the time, going from one to the other as opportunity afforded. Mrs. Edwards was converted in a gracious revival held in the New Lancaster United Brethren church. When just a young woman, she united with the United Brethren church in which she has given herself in unstinted devotion until her release a few days ago.....Burial was in New Lancaster cemetery, Sunday, June 29."
