Weatherwax, male, age 58 yrs, carpenter, married no birthplace or nationality listed; died in [Osawatomie] State Insane Asylum, Miami Co., KS of exhaustion complicated by chronis [sic] disease of brain, under treatment Asylum 5 months; interred 27 Feb 1887 in Asylum cemetery. Return by T. Campbell, Osawatomie, KS."

Query: Need more information on my grandmothers side. Her mother was Mary Ella Reynolds who was born in Osawatomie Kansas on a Cherokee Indian reservation around 1879. Mary Ella Reynolds had at least one brother born there also, J.Miles Reynolds in 1884. Their parents were Jefferson Reynolds and Mary Mobley. Any information like birth dates, marriage dates, etc.. on this family would be greatly appreciated.

Query: I am interested in information from the 1900 census regarding Cordelia Hagen, Miami Co. Wea Twp. About 58 years old. She probably had at least one child still at home and her husband John was still alive then. I am mainly interested in the number of children she gave birth to, and I believe that info is included on the 1900 census. I would also like to find out about the reference in Miami Co. KS, Family histories Vol. II pg. 91, Charles Hagen

Response: As of 1900, Cordelia had been married to John for 30 years and they had 7 children 6 of whom were living. Those children remaining at home were: Wyatt-23, Emma-20 and Charles-17. John was listed as a butcher and Wyatt was a traveling salesman.

In Volume II of the Cemeteries of Miami County, Kansas, published by the Miami County Genealogy Society, on page 85 (Old Louisburg cemetery, Middle Section-South Part, Row 2) I found the following: Lot #M 143, you will find HAGENs: Wilhamena 1871-1887; Henry 1872-1900; John 1840-1908 Co. D, 4NY Vol Cav; Cordelia E. 1841-1929; Charles B. 1882-1944.

The following is from Family Histories and Stories of Miami County, Kansas Vol. II, published by the Miami County Historical Society and the Miami County Genealogy Society. On pages 91, in reprint of "Growing Up in Louisburg, 1926-1944" by Phil Thomas, History Writer, in a section called "Part 4 - Other Business and Personages in the Louisburg Area During the Period Being Reported", it says "Charles Hagen, private piano lessons." This appears to have been a multi-part newspaper series that ran in the Louisburg Herald, March 12, 1998; March 19, 1998.

From the 1870 US Census, KS, Paola Twp, Arnold Walden, age 36, farmer, born IL with his wife Rachel 37, born Ohio were located on pae 464. Children living at home: Ozilla(?)_ 11 and Edward 9 both born in IL and Maggie 3 born in KS.

The following is from Family Histories and Stories of Miami County, Kansas Vol. II, published by the Miami County Historical Society and the Miami County Genealogy Society. On pages 294, in the story for Arnold WALDON, in a paragraph discussing his second (first wife Rachel died October 11, 1877) marriage (Dec 14, 1879) to Mary DOLEN, it says "Three children were born to Arnold and Mary, two of whom survived; Charity became Mrs. Lewis and lived in Kansas City, and Katherine became Mrs. McMahon and lived in Paola." Query: I am looking for information on Olin (or Orin) and Catherine (Clifton) Roark. She was born in Paola, KS and moved to Scott City with her husband. Her parents (Homer and Mable Clifton), although dead, have disappeared from the records. They lived and died in Paola where he was the town druggist. I can find no trace of them. Were they buried in Scott Co., or on Miami Co., Ks? Any help anyone can give me will be sincerely appreciated.

Response: The following is from Family Histories and Stories of Miami County, Kansas Vol. II, published by the Miami County Historical Society and the Miami County Genealogy Society. On pages 226, in the story for William F., Arnetta and Mary C. MORAINE, it says "... William F. had been born March 9, 1849, in Champaign County, Illinois, the son of Amanda Roe and Moses MORAINE. When a small boy, he moved with his parents to Iowa where they are found in the 1860 Greene County census. By 1860 Amanda had died, and Moses was married to a Nancy MORAINE. ... " Submitted by Ona M. Query: Andrew J. McEwen and Chloe May Stroud were married in Paola, Ks. January 1, 1889. They are my paternal grandparents and I understand that A. J. McEwen had 2 sisters and 2 brothers. I know nothing about Chloe May Stroud, except she was in school in Illinois in 1881-2, and I don't know the "grades" she was in at the time. I have a copy of their marriage record but nothing shows on family. I have learned that one of the brothers to A. J. was named Archibald Moses. Any help you can give me, I would appreciate.

Frank Cook in the country cemetery at Osawatomie several years ago and saw the grave of William Cook in the city cemetery. I did not take the dates because I did not know at that time that Frank had a brother William.

Response: On page 52, Family Histories and Stories of Miami County, Kansas Vol. II, published by the Miami County Historical Society and the Miami County Genealogy Society, the entry for Jimmie Lynn and Sandra SITES is in a caption to a class picture for Moore School District 83. No year mentioned. Lois Cook was the teacher.

On pages 160 & 161, in the story for Richard "Dick" Roland and Rebecca Frances (BROWN) GOODRICK, it says "He married Rebecca Frances BROWN on November 5, 1900, in Paola. Rebecca was born September 12, 1877, in Otterville, Missouri, daughter of William and Mary E. (GAUS) BROWN. ... parents of four children all of whom were born on the homestead west of Paola ... Ida Edith b. December 2, 1901 d. November 22, 1997 ... Alice Louise b. January 27, 1904 d. October 6, 1997 ... Frank Henry b. January 26, 1907 d. December 25, 1977 ... Lewis Alanzo b. June 28, 1908 ... Rebecca died September 12, 1973, buried in Paola Cemetery, Oak Grove section." There is also a picture of Rebecca and the four children taken in 1912. Submitted by Delores Austin.

On page 271, in the story for Benjamin "Ben" Charles and Alice Louise SMITH, it says Ben "... worked on a farm west of Paola known as Light Hill. It was here that he met Alice Louise GOODRICK, the daughter of Richard and Rebecca (BROWN) GOODRICK . They were married on April 6, 1921, in Paola ..."
