Query Surnames: McCoy

Date: 13 August 2010

Query: I am researching my family and found a reference to what I think is the cemetery record for my great-grandmother Alice McCoy - McCoy, Alice L. 269-V3

I know on the 1900 U.S. census she was listed at the Kansas State Insane Asylum in Osawatomie KS. The family “story" is that she had to be hospitalized after the death of a child. Her age on the census is 43.

I’m not sure how she ended up in Kansas. In 1880 the family was living in Iowa and in 1900 we think the children were living with different relatives in Nebraska. Her husband went to Colorado for a job and never returned to the family.

Query Surnames: Woods

Date: 7 August 2010

Query: The cemetery index lists Woods, Alice A. R. Delia, 24-V3 . If this is the wife of John Quincy Woods (who is also listed on 24-V3), I need her death date so that I can request an obituary. I know John died 3/20/1925 and I’m pretty sure Delia died not too long afterwards as I can’t find her on the 1930 Miami county census. His obituary lists his wife as Delia, and that is how she is listed on the 1920 census. I think her name was Alice Ardelia White before she married John Woods. John is buried in the Elmdale cemetery in Miami county.

Jack Keeling email

Response: From Cemeteries of Miami Co, KS, Vol 3, p 24, Elmdale Cemetery, Section IV, Row 16, no lot numbers: Woods, Alice A. R. Delia 22 Jul 1860 - 11 Sep 1930 mother; Woods, John Quincy 26 Sep 1854 - 4 Mar 1925 father - unreadable military stone (US War Vet).
