1895 State Census Index On-Line!! Click HERE to find your people!

Want to help in getting the Mitchell County census records on-line?  If you have FrontPage, Word or a similar program, and would like to help, I will be happy to send you a page at a time of the town and year you are interested in to transcribe.  The files are in TIF format and are great-looking in an easy to install and use viewing program I can send you. It is really easy to do a page at a time!

Here is what one volunteer had to say about helping with transcribing!

“Now that wasn't a very hard project once I was finally able to get lined up. It was a pleasure to contribute.”—Sara

If you don't think you'd like to do the transcribing, what about being a proofreader?

Transcribed censuses are typed exactly as enumerator spelled with the exception of ditto marks for last names. Where ditto marks were used in the original, the full last name has been used instead to make searching easier. These pages have been proofed by 3 persons, but mistakes can happen! If you think a name has been entered incorrectly, please let me know. Besides relying on the census image itself, where writing was questionable, I have attempted to verify names through cemetery records and the 1902 atlas. Some names may still have a ? indicating none of us could be absolutely sure about the spelling; other names may have a name in ( ) next to it. This means that it was copied exactly as in the census image, but was really off in spelling with cemetery spelling inserted for clarification.
