GENEALOGY FROM THE HEARTLAND

CURRY/CURREY Family Research

My research has centered on Hiram M. Currey (endnotes)who resided in Mason County, Kentucky about 1790 and moved to Champaign County Ohio by 1810. Documentation of his children has proven to be difficult. Therefore, researchers should not assume that the family shown in the first generation is correct.

Several researchers have shown this Hiram M. Currey to be the son of Thomas Currey (endnotes) and thus the brother to William C. Currey, Thomas Currey and Hannah Currey McQuitty of Adams and Highland Counties Ohio. I have not made this family connection because the birth date given for Thomas's son Hiram puts him in a different generation than the Hiram Currey of Champaign County, Ohio.

While researching Hiram Currey of Champaign County, Ohio, I also researched Col. James Currey (endnotes) who settled in Madison County, Ohio. Col. James Curry was a Revolutionar War veteran from Virginia.

Two Curry (endnotes) brothers who were Revolutionary War veterans from Pennsylvania also settled in Butler and Preble Counties, Ohio. Robert CURRY (endnotes) was also living in southwestern Pennsylvania prior to 1790.

Descendants of Samuel Curry (endnotes) family resided in Washington County, Pennsylvania in the early 1800s.

Whether any of these CURRY families are related is unknown at this time. However, most of them resided in southwestern Pennsylvania around 1780-1790.
