Josie's Poetry

Josie Winifred Hammond was born 9 February 1874 in Knox County Illinois. Josie was the daughter of Richmond Fisk Hammond and Sarah Ellen Ralston. At the age of 12, Josie was living in Dodge City, Kansas with her family. On 24 December 1890, Josie married Judson Foster Crawford in Dodge City, Kansas. Josie and Judson resided in Dodge City, where they raised a family of seven children. During her lifetime, Josie kept a ledger where she recorded poems and song lyrics. These poems reflect on her family and the life and times of Dodge City, Kansas. Josie died on 27 February 1954 and is buried in Maple Grove Cemetery, Dodge City, Kansas.
