Franklin was married to Myrtle (??). Both may have been involved in nursery or other horticulture work. They lived there in the 1870s and 1880s? Also looking for anyone that may have cemetery records for a cemetery in Galesburg, Kansas. We are looking for any information on Elza ROBERTS, b: February 4, 1871 in Schuyler Co., Illinois, moved to Kansas when he was about 15 years old. Elza married Ida Mae TRAMMELL in Neosho County, Kansas on April 5, 1896, she died there on December 24, 1898 after giving birth to their only child. Ida Mae TRAMMELL was the daughter of John Frazier TRAMMELL and Sarah Jackson JONES. Ida Mae ROBERTS, John Frazier and Sarah Jackson TRAMMELL are all buried at Erie, Kansas. The elder TRAMMELLs were around Erie as late as 1932, when John Frazier died. Any information would be greatly appreciated. SWAYZE...ADAMS Cindy (RROBBUFFAL@aol.com) 5 December 1998 Sophia Ann ADAMS married Caleb SWAYZE on January 18, 1866 in Bushnell, McDonough Co., Illinois. They were living in Morehead, Neosho Co., Kansas in 1895. Sophia and Caleb had 7 children. Before they moved to Morehead they were living in Hope, Warren Co., New Jersey. Four children were born in Hope, New Jersey. Do not know where the other three were born. I believe that Sophia and Caleb are buried in the Old SWAYZE cem. in Hope, New Jersey. Sophia was the daughter of Robert A. ADAMS and Caroline GARRISON. Robert born in Kentucky, Caroline in Indiana or Ohio. Caleb was the son of Jacob Cooper SWAYZE and Charity QUICK. I also have all the children's names of Sophia and Caleb's, if anyone needs them. HUTTON...YELTON Jim Smith (jlsmith@freenet.tlh.fl.us) 4 December 1998 Henry Patrick HUTTON, in referring to eloping with Flora Alice YELTON, speaks of driving off from the district called "Star" and hurrying across the river to get married (in Shaw, KS, September 30, 1887). Since Flora lived in Urbana, I assume the river was the Neosho. Can anyone tell me what the district "Star" was, or anything about the HUTTON or the YELTON families? The YELTONs lived in Kansas until 1892 and the HUTTONs until the turn of the century. One son, Harry died in La Grande, Union Co., Oregon, 17 August 1945. He married Pearl HUFF in Idaho. Son, Whipple McCLAY died in Los Angeles County, 1 March 1952. Other children are Roy, Philip, Everett and Robert. Harry was born in Stark, Neosho Co., Kansas in 1892, others might have been also. Anything would be appreciated. Possibly the daughter of Eli LASLEY (1821-1899) and Susannah (maiden name unknown). Eli and Susannah are buried in Leana Cemetery near Chanute, Neosho Co., KS. Hattie married Sylvester J. WISE and moved to Labette Co., KS where they settled near Chetopa and had at least 4 children between 1882 and 18889. Hattie and Sylvester are buried in Union Cemetery near Cherokee Twp, Montgomery Co., KS. Any information you can provide about Hattie, Sylvester, Eli or any of the rest of 'em would be greatly appreciated. BAKER...SHEFFIELD Edward Carter (ecrb@email.msn.com) 20 November 1998 I collect old postcards. Recently, I bought one addressed to Mr. Almon M. BAKER, Broken Bow, NE., c/o Mr. J. SHEFFIELD. Message reads: "Thayer, Kans. 5-17-09. Dear Children: We are very glad you are enjoying yourselves. We are well. Have had plenty rain since you were here. I was down and stayed Saturday night with the children. They were well. Sayed they had had a card from Iva; but did not know where to address you. Not sure, but Swan's colt may be a bay. It is quite shy of all of us. Other colts are doing well. Strawberries are beginning to ripen. Mamma" It is postmarked 17 May 1909 from Thayer, KS. TAYLOR family who were listed in the 1880 Neosho Co., KS census in the Mission Township. William N. (b: 1835) was married to Sarah RODEN. They had children; David F., John, Robert, Henry, Nancy and Mary, who married Sam BOYD. I find William without Sarah in the 1900 census in Sarcoxie, Jasper Co., MO. Son David F. married Effie May SHIELDS, and after living a short while in Guthrie, OK, they finally settled for good in Benton Co., AR. Has anyone done any research on this family? Their children, Rebecca, Scott and Henry Jerome, were born in Chanute. Anne's father's name was Ed LOWE. He was born in Indiana. His wife's name is unknown. Anne LOWE was also born in West Lebanon, Indiana on April 2, 1854. Anne and her parents came to Kansas when she was about 16 years old. She lived in Chanute from about 1903 until 1933. McCOWAN in Neosho Co., January 1, 1878. She was born August 21, 1860 in Redwood, Ohio. She came to Kansas at about 16 years of age with her parents in 1876. They moved to a farm about 5 miles west of Chanute. Her mother's maiden name may have been CASE. Parents were born in Ohio. She may have had a brother named Cecil HILL Dora died January 23, 1931 CARLBERG...NELSON Bob Carlberg (blcberg@poncacity.net) 17 October 1998 I seek information on my Grandfather, Andrew Carl CARLBERG and my Great-Grandfather, Carl Johan CARLBERG. I am told that Carl Johan emigrated from Sweden to the Colfax community area in the mid to late 1800's. Later, he and his Swedish wife moved to Chanute. He was a blacksmith, as well as a farmer, and builder. My Grandfather, Andrew Carl CARLBERG, lived in the Petrolia - Chanute area until his death in the 1930's. I am told that at one time or another he was an exhibition balloonist, a railroad engineer, a farmer and a skilled handyman. For many summers, he and my Grandmother, Cora Belle NELSON, operated an A&W Rootbeer stand on Main Street in Chanute. I would appreciate any information available concerning these grandfathers. Primary interests at this time are dates and places of birth, marriage and burial. However, they had come from St. Paul, Neosho County, Kansas. I know that Pius' father James, was buried at Osage Mission/St. Francis now. Peter William MESS and his wife Eva Reischmann MESS were married in Osage Mission at St. Francis Church on Nov. 27th, 1883. They had three children while they lived there: Nicholas Norbert MESS (born Sept. 28, 1884), Mary Leonora MESS (born July 4, 1887), and Margarit Cyrilla MESS (born March 5, 1890). Peter William MESS located in Neosho County in 1874 and taught school there. In 1877 he was teaching at the College of the Catholic Mission. If anyone knows of any MESS family history, or the location (if they still exist) of the St. Francis Church or the College of the Catholic Mission, please contact me. She is listed on the 1920 Neosho Co., KS census with her uncle David KILGORE and his family. I believe she was the wife of James Harrison SMITH who died 13 October 1919. The census data was taken 10 January 1920, and on 4 February 1920 Ola had son James Harrison SMITH, Jr. Also, does anyone have access to the census? I was only able to see the soundex so I am missing some info. Any information is greatly appreciated.
