O'ROURKE...McCARTY...DULING Margaret Davidson (DavisonJim@aol.com) 3 April 1999 All in the latter 1800s, our Grandmother was an O'ROURKE before she married a DULING. Granddad's Mother's maiden name was Katherine Elizabeth McCARTY. We have some information, our Grandmother was the 9th child of the O'ROURKE's she was born in November 1889. Grandfather William John DULING was born in August 1891. His father was born stateside and his Grandfather was born in 1824 in Ireland. He became an American citizen after he immigrated. Don't know a thing about the McCARTY family. Many burials in St. Paul, Kansas of the O'ROURKE family. The Grandparents DULING are in the cemetery north of Walnut, Kansas, along with a lot of other DULING family. PIERCE...JOHNSTON Pat Brockett (vicbrockett@earthlink.net) 2 April 1999 My Great-Grandfather, Thomas H. PIERCE, b: 17 March 1836 in Hart Co., KY, and wife, Susan Durbin PIERCE, b: 19 August 1842 in Illinois, were living in Neosho Co., KS by 1870. Both are buried in the St. Francis Cemetery in St. Paul. Thomas, d: 14 February 1888 and Susan, d: 23 February 1922. She remarried after Thomas' death to George Alfred JOHNSTON on 6 April 1891. The children of Thomas H. PIERCE and Susan Durbin PIERCE are as follows: Sarah A. PIERCE, b: 27 January 1865 in Sangamon Co., IL; James Rhodes PIERCE, b: 7 August 1868 in Pawnee, Sangamon Co., IL; Harriet Rebecca PIERCE, b: 6 June 1871 in Osage Mission, Neosho Co., KS; George Alfred PIERCE, b: 27 June 1874 in Osage Mission, Neosho Co., KS; William Roy PIERCE (my Grandfather), b: 5 March 1877 in Osage Mission, Neosho Co., KS; Louis Washington PIERCE, b: 7 January 1881 in Osage Mission, Neosho Co., KS; and Gertrude Mary PIERCE, b: 4 May 1885 in Osage Mission, Neosho Co., KS. Thomas' father was Daniel R. PIERCE, b: abt. 1810 in Hardin Co., KY. On 16 April 1831 he married Susana GOODMAN who was b: abt. 1807 in VA. Three children are listed on the 1850 Hardin CO., KY census in the household of Daniel and Susana. The children listed are; William Y. PIERCE, b: abt. 1832 in KY; Rebecca A. PIERCE, b: abt. 1834 in KY; and Thomas H. PIERCE, previously mentioned. Daniel and wife Susana are buried in the St. Francis Cemetery in St. Paul. William Y. PIERCE and wife Harriette, are too. There is also a Samuel and wife Ann(a) who are buried there as well. I suspect that Samuel is an older son of Daniel and Susana. Samuel is living next door on the 1870 Neosho Co., KS census. I am confused by the marriage date (1831) for Daniel and Susana compared to the birth year for Samuel (1827). When I first started doing this research, I was told that Thomas' father was Samuel and that the PIERCE's were from Grayson Co., KY (so I am pretty sure there is a family connection), but then I found Thomas listed in the household of Daniel on the 1850 KY census. Are there any other descendants of any of the above mentioned people who are searching these same lines? Perhaps by working together we can figure this all out. DuPERL Gary Converse (converse@primary.net) 1 April 1999 I recently purchased a postcard in an antique store in Michigan, addressed to a Miss Mary McLaughlin, 937 Mary Street, Flint, Michigan. The picture on the postcard is the Neosho County River Bridge in Chanute, Kansas. It is postmarked January 20, 1912 - mailed from Chanute. The writer's signature is a bit difficult to read, but I think it is from a Mrs. J. M. DuPerl. It reads: "Dear Friend, Your card at hand. Was great to hear from you. We are having our share of cold weather in this state. I enjoy it fine. I have been feeling pretty good. Hope this finds you well. Do you remember I took the picture of the train? It was fine. Will send you one soon. Glad to hear from you anytime." Perhaps somebody in Chanute or researching Neosho County is related to this person or has interest in this postcard. Feel free to contact me.
