Enumerator's notes at bottom of page:

"Note: This is all the settlers found in Ness County. This Ranche is upon the Pawnee fork of the Great Arkansas they do not live by famine but by trade and traffic with those who pass through the county and by hunting & trapping. There are no settlers or inhabitants west of this in the state of Kansas in my district but are some at Fort Lyon in Colorado. Z. Jackson"

"Note 2: The Pawnee Fork is a pretty stream of good running water has a large supply of fair timber and wide areable bottom lands. It is not necessary to add that no man."
