Seeking information on my grandfather's family. His name was Charles Leslie Barns and both his death certificate and marriage license show that he was born in Ness, KS on February 18, 1887. His father was James M. Barns (born in PA) and his mother was Jennie C. HUNT (born in OH).
My father said that when he was a boy, his mother took him to Kansas by train to visit relatives. (Dad grew up in Beaver County, near Pittsburgh, PA) He and my uncle (Dad's brother) both remembered that someone in the family owned a candy shop/factory. Dad also thought that there were relatives in Great Bend and Lawrence, KS. I assume that the relatives would be of either the Barns or Hunt families, but I don't know that for
sure. Dad said that one of the relatives was Leslie Hunt--and that he was named Leslie after him.

Looking for descendants of Samuel Bowen Leavens (12 Aug 1828, Chester, Saratoga Co., NY - 12 Feb 1909, Carlton, Barry Co., MI), son of Joseph Bowen Leavens and Hannah MOON. Samuel Leavens was a Civil War soldier. His first wife, by who he had 3 sons, died in Orleans Co., NY, and he married my great-great-grandmother, Parria Sadie Ann KEELER 9 March 1881, in South Barre, Orleans Co., NY. They lived in Orleans Co., NY, Ashtabula Co., OH, Pratt & Ness Co., KS, and Barry Co., MI. They had three daughters, Mattie Elvina, who married Neil Grant WILSON (my great-grandparents); Emma Etta, who married Charles HECHT and Charles PAULUS; and Tressie Elizabeth, who married
Edward LAWRENC. Would like to know more about their life in Kansas, and am willing to freely exchange information.

An October 1903 obituary for Elizabeth (Taylor) McClure mentions that her son, James McClure, was residing in Ness City at that time. James was born June 16, 1840, in Morgan Co. IL, and was married to Lydia A. BROWN in Oct. 1866. I would appreciate any information about his children, whether any descendants still live in Ness Co., and whether he lived in Ness Co. until his death and if so, where he is buried.

Searching for info on two members of the McKnight family that lived in Beeler, Ness County, KS. They are brother and sister. The first is Siegle McKnight who was born ca. 1862 and married Mary A. who was born in IL ca 1862. They had at least one child, Edna R., who was born ca 1893 in KS. They were living in Beeler at the time of his father's death in 1904. His sister was Francis Ann McKnight who was born in ca 1840 in OH (she was the oldest, Siegle the youngest). Francis married Thomas GATTEN in 1858 in IA. She was also living in Beeler at the time of her father's death (1904). I am not sure of the dates she arrived in Kansas, but their parents came ca 1874 from IA, so would guess that they may have too.
