Seeking information about Gusto Erickson and Ben Thompson families who I believe lived in the Norton, KS area in the late 1890s.  I have a picture of their wives that I believe is dated between 1895-1899.  Does anyone have access to the 1900 Federal Census or is there a state census that may have these names?

My husband's great grandparents, Francis Marion Williams and his wife Mary, moved their family to the Edmond, Kansas area sometime before December. of 1878. Four of their 11 children were born there. I have the census for 1880 and 1900, but would like to obtain the information from the special state census that were taken over this period of time. How can I obtain it? Thank you.

Subject: ALLEN and WALLICK marriage registrations
Date: August 26, 2001

My husband's great grandfather, David ALLEN, married Mary WALLICK on Feb. 21, 1880 in Norton, Kansas. 1) Would the marriage registration and/or certificate include the names of their parents? 2)What would be the best way to obtain a copy of the information? 3) What newspaper if any, might include information on their marriage? Also, David was killed by an animal kick to his head. I believe he died April 4, 1885. 4) What paper would include the details of this accident and/or his obituary? Thank you.

They were both of legal age, so it is unlikely that their parents names would be included on the marriage record. But I'd give it a shot anyway. It's always a good idea to have documentation. Write to Clerk of the District Court, PO Box 70, Norton, Kansas 67654 or call them at 785-877-5720. I don't know what they charge if you write & ask them to copy the info - it may be a good idea to call them first.

See http://www.kshs.org/library/news.htm for available newspapers. Your local library can interlibrary loan those newspapers for you.

or you can write to Norton County Genealogical Society, c/o Walta Russ, 322 W. Lincoln, Norton, Ks 67654. Send a SASE, and be aware that she will ask for a donation to the non-profit society.

Good luck, Ardie

I would like to find anyone knowing my father, Johnny Rodriguez.  He was in the Norton Hospital about 10 years during approximately 1948 to 1958.  He was in the TB sanitarium.  I would like to know why or how they (patients) were held there so many years?  He died at the age of 55 and spoke little of this time. I would like to know about the hospital and anything that would help find out more about my father.  Thank you, Christina

Looking for information on CLARENCE VANDERLE b. 1895, probably in Almena Twp, Norton Co. I am not sure of his surname, but the only document I have shows was appears to be Vanderle although the last part of the name is nearly illegible. Does anyone know of a Vanderle family or some spelling close to that. Would appreciate any information.

Hi Lorene,
there is no Leona in NT county - it would have to either be Leota or Lenora

There was a John Alexander Shirley who homesteaded near Norcatur [actually in Decatur Co.]. There is info about that family in the Norcatur Centennial book. Here's a brief outline:

John A. Shirley m. Barbara Jones
children: (not in order by age)
Alice m. David Meek
Leota m. Andrew Johnson
Orville m. Tana Wallace
Frank m. Sadie Hoppas/Hoppes

The names don't seem to match, but I can send you this info if you would like to contact me at mad_genealogist@yahoo.com

Looking for information on the Conartys specifically Joseph Conarty and Ida Mcfarland's children, they had at least 3 maybe 4 children.  I believe their names were John, Harry, Mammie, and Mary, I have a picture with all 4 of them in it.  Harry was my grandfather and he married Bertha Aumer in December of 1910.  She was a school teacher in Norton County Schools for several years. I have a few pictures of her with some of her students in front of a one room school house.  Anyway, they both died in the 1950s and if anyone has any info on either of them or their families I would love to hear from you.
Thanks.
