I am searching for the grave of my g-g-gmother, Sophronia Adams (nee Brown), who was living in Belvue in the 1870s and 1880s, died Feb. 19, 1895. She was survived by her husband, Joseph. I suspect Sophronia died in the Belvue area and is buried there. I also was told in a very brief visit to Belvue quite a few years ago that the main cemetery in Belvue was down along the river. It was severely damaged in a major flood in the 1903-04 timeframe, and if my g-g-gmother was buried there, most likely her grave was wiped out. Can someone shed any light on the flood story, or possibly guide me on where to look for Sophronia's grave. By the way, she apparently also went by the nickname Lucy, so her name may appear that way. Thank you very much.

CHRISTENSEN - MARIADAHL/OLDSBURG - 1880's. I am researching my Christensen family heritage. My great-grandmother immigrated from Denmark with her family in the 1870's. In 1880, she received a letter headed "Mariadahl, Pottawatomie County" from a person who signed the letter "Your cousin, AMELIA CHRISTENSEN". The letter refers to "Uncle ANDREW", and includes the names FREDDIE and MARY, as if they were brother and sister of Amelia. There is a Mrs. SANDBERG mentioned in the letter. There is a second letter between other family members about ten years later, when my Christensens were living nearby in Riley County, that refers to "Uncle Christensen" and refers to a visit to Oldsburg. Is there anyone with Christensen ancestry researching in Pottawatomie County for whom any of these names might sound familiar? Please e-mail me at the above address, I have extensive information on the rest of the family -- including ancestry in Denmark. I would also be happy to forward copies of these letters.

Great uncle and aunt, Alfred and Harriet Coony, with daughters Marie and Mary Agnes, and sons John, Edmond, Thomas, David, Theodore, Charles Sebastian and Alfred Francis (Frank), moved from Edina, Knox Co. MO to the St. Mary's area sometime after 1880. Charles told his grandchildren that he had attended the St. Mary's boarding school. In the late 1890's, Charles and Theodore moved to Southern California. The rest of the family apparently also moved some time later. I would appreciate any information on when this was done, and if anyone has access to the state censuses of 1885 and 1895 (I understand the State Historical Society has films of these censuses) perhaps they'd be so kind as to check those for me. In return, I'd be glad to try to look up any California information anyone may want.

I am trying to find information on my Grandfather A. B. Nealis. I'm not sure when his parents W.P. and Eliza Nealis came to the Wamego, Ks. area. A.B. married my grandmother in the early 1890's and their first three children were born in the Wamego area. They moved to Wallace county Kansas in 1905 and my mother was born here in Wallace County in January of 1906. My grandmother's maiden name was Sadie Hudson and she was the daughter of Barney and Susan Hudson. She and her parents came to Kansas from Illinois when she was a young girl. She and A.B.'s parents are buried in the Wamego Cemetery. Her brother's son is buried there also and his name is Elton Hudson. A couple of years ago I was at Wamego and went through the cemetery. There was one sister to A.B. that I didn't find. Her name was Sylvia Nealis Youngkemp and she passed away around 1937 or 38. I thought that surely she and her family were buried there in the county so far I haven't located them. What I really want to know is if there is anyone left that might have some information on these families or where I can go to maybe find some documents or graves. I'm doing this for my Granddaughter as she is interested. I have written down what I remember from what my mother and her brother told me as a child. I would appreciate any suggestions. Thank you so much.

We are seeking information about Edward and William J. O'Brien, young sons of John and Mary Herbert O'Brien. They are included in your listing of Mt. Calvary Catholic Cemetery. Edward was born in 1886 and died in 1909. William J. was born in 1888 and also died in 1909. These young men would have been born in Bourbon Co Kansas and moved to St. Mary's with their father following the death of their mother in 1899. Their father, John O'Brien is believed to be the son of Daniel D. O'Brien also included in your Mt. Calvary listing. Thanks for your assistance.

I am looking for any information anyone might have on Minnie ROOT or Mable ROOT. They were two daughters of Lilly J. CASTLE and Abel C. (or G.) ROOT. Lilly died in 1897 and Able died in 1893. That would have left Minnie 21 when Lilly died and Mable would have been 19. I know that their oldest sister Charlotte went to live with her maternal grandparents in New York, but I can't seem to find Minnie or Mable anywhere. Did they marry by this time or were they alive? I have checked the cemetery records that are available on line and haven't found anything. Any help that could be given would be greatly appreciated.

I have just recently discovered that my great great grandmother, Catharine Sumner, her son William and his wife Sarah, and their family are buried in St. Clere Cemetery. They came out to Kansas in the 1870's or 1880's from Virginia and none of the Virginia relatives knew what happened to them. We visited the cemetery this week and found their grave markers. What I really came to Kansas to find was Catharine's death record or obituary that would prove that Annuel Edwards was her father. We could not fine a death record or obituary in any of the local newpapers at that time. Can you help? It would be so much appreciated. Thank you.
