Bert was elected Sheriff and they moved to Westmoreland in December, 1912. Bert held office from 1913 to 1916. He was also sheriff in 1919 and 1920. In 1924, he was elected to the Kansas State Legislature from the 41st district, where he served one term from 1925 to 1927.
