The four brothers all migrated to the Westmoreland, Pottawatomie Co., Kansas, area from Lake Co., Indiana. They were the sons of Hiram H. Scritchfield and Esther Ann Highfield who had a family of 14, seven daughters and 7 sons. Williams, Jackson and Oliver were all veterans of the Civil War. Jackson, his wife Addie and his brother Oliver were the first to migrate and came to Westmoreland by wagon shortly after the war in 1865. James and William with his family followed later. They were all farmers and settled on farms in the Westmoreland area. There are relatives of Jackson, Oliver and James still living in Pottawatomie Co., Kansas.Jackson and Adelaid (Sherman) had 11 children all born and raised in the Westmoreland area. Later in life he was the Postmaster of St. George, Kansas. Both are buried in the St. George Cemetery.
William married Laura (Thompson) in Indiana and brought four sons with them to Westmoreland. Both are buried in the Westmoreland City Cemetery.
Oliver married Amanda P (O'Daniel) near Westmoreland and they had a son and daughter. He is buried in the Sunset Cemetery, Manhattan, Kansas and she is buried in the Westmoreland City Cemetery.
James married Julia (Whearty) in Moodyville, Kansas, and they had a son and daughter. Both are buried in the Westmoreland City Cemetery.
