S/O Ransom Henry and Tina Bell Harville Ashens. At age 17 he signed up with the Civilian Conservation Corp. He spent six months at Caledonia, Minn., and then one and a half years at Camp Chilly and Camp Rockland in Idaho. He built dams, fought forest fires and still found time to attend school and play baseball. In April 1946, he accepted a job with the Department of Agriculture as a food inspector in Hutchinson and has lived there ever since. He was later employed by Meadow Gold Dairy, Hutchinson Iron and Metal and Reno County Law Enforcement Center, retiring in 1986. He belonged to Tenth Avenue United Methodist Church, where he held several offices and had previously belonged to the Derby Running Club. He was a baseball coach when each of his three sons was in Cub Scouts and Little League. He was also a member of the Carey Park Golf Club, formerly of the American Legion Lysle Rishel Post No. 68 and the Prospectors Sunday School Class. He was working in Joplin, Mo., when he was drafted into the U.S. Army Air Corp on Aug. 5, 1942, during World War II, serving as a Corporal in the 319th Fighter Control Squadron. He spent a total of 40 months in service, 26 of them overseas; New Caledonis, Guadalcanal, Russell Islands, Emeru, Mindeneau in the Philippines, Bismarch Archipelligo, Leyete, The Solomons and on to Osaka, Japan, in the Occupation Forces. He was discharged December 1945.  He was preceded in death by six brothers, Ray Franklin, Ransom Joseph, Ernest Henry, Robert James, Burt Alva and Oscar Ashens; and four sisters, Della Nichols, Ethel Wilks, Daisy Kaufman and Marguerite Ashens.

Dick S/O J. Walter and Reta Alene VanPelt Becker. He was a 1957 graduate of Schoharie, N.Y. High School and a 1963 graduate of Indiana Tech. He was a civil engineer, working for Turzillo Contracting Company of Omaha from 1963 to 1984, Borton, Inc. of Hutchinson from 1984 to 1997 and Longfellow Foundations, based from Clearfield, Iowa, 1997 to present. He was of the Lutheran faith. He was a member of Kansas State University Victory Club, National Rifle Association and the Central Kansas Gun Club. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran, serving from 1955 to 1962. He was preceded in death by his parents. Military Honors conducted by the Fort Riley Honor Guard.

A resident of Hutchinson most his life, he was the owner of Blanton Used Cars, Hutchinson, for 25 years. He served in the U.S. Army. He attended Westside Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by four brothers, Jackson, Franklin, Louis, and Joseph Blanton; and two sisters, Phylis Blanton and Barbara Williams. Cremation has taken place.

A lifetime Hutchinson resident, he was employed by Farmland Industries Steel Production Plant in customer service before becoming the business administrator for the Dental Center, later becoming the business administrator for Dr. Trimmel Orthodontics in 1999. He belonged to Mid States Car Club and Die Cast Collectors Club. He was preceded in death by his father; a sister, Cathy; and an uncle, Rodney Paine.

On May 27, 1962, he married Barbara Ann Southard at Haviland. She survives.  Robert was a printer for 31 years, working at R.L. Polk, Mutual Press, and Roberts Hutch-Line, retiring in 1991. In 1966, he received an honorable discharge from the Air National Guard after serving six years as a jet engine mechanic. He also was an active member of the Hutchinson Police Reserve for many years, retiring in 1989 at the rank of sergeant. A devoted husband, father and grandfather, he was a familiar sight at his sons and grandchildren's activities. In particular, he loved attending their sporting events, school programs and scouting activities. He also was a history buff and longtime fan of Royals baseball and KU Jayhawks basketball. Robert was preceded in death by: an infant daughter, Christine Diane; his parents; and a brother, James.

She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, board member and on the finance committee at Wesley Towers and an active bridge player. She married Joseph Dee Cox Sr. on Sept. 8, 1940, in Enid, Okla. They moved to Hutchinson in the 1960s. He died on Nov. 27, 1996. She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Barry Evan Cox; and a sister, Mildred Bender.

S/O Delbert and Molly Bryan Culver. He graduated from Ensign High School, joined the U.S. Navy and served during World War II. After World War II, he returned to the farm near Cimarron. During the winter months, he worked for the Ensign Implement Company. He retired from farming in the early 1990s. They moved to Hutchinson in 1995.
He married Betty L. Sipes on Feb. 25, 1945, in Dodge City. She passed away on May 26, 2000. He was preceded in death by his brother, Leroy.

A lifetime Hutchinson resident, he was a retired farmer and custodian for Prosperity Grade School, retiring in 1974. He was a Garden Farmer since 1947, and owned and operated Gisels Gardens, retiring in 2000.  On Aug. 31, 1935, he married Pearl Dreibelbis in Newton. She died Aug. 25, 1978. On Jan. 4, 1980, he married Pauline Sanders in Hutchinson. She survives. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Vernon and Clyde; and three half sisters.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Donald Groseclose; and two sisters, Daisy Moreland and Ruby Groseclose.
He was an optician at Singleton-Joyce Optical for 34 years before retirement. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church.

A Hutchinson resident since 1946, he was a certified professional engineer for the Kansas Department of Transportation for 23 years, retiring in 1990. He belonged to Countryside Baptist Church, Alpha Kappa Lambda Fraternity and was a charter member of Chi Epsilon Civil Engineering Fraternity. He was president of the Kansas Engineering Society, Hutchinson Chapter, and was active in 4-H. He served in the U.S. Navy. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Robert; and a sister, Sharon Darrow.  Burial with military graveside rites conducted by the U.S. Naval Reserve.

He belonged to Church of Christ and Amvets, both in Hutchinson. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. On July 7, 1961, he married Pauline LeShure in Hutchinson. She died March 3, 2004. He was preceded in death by a
stepson, Delos Smith; and a brother, Austin.
Hayden, Martin W. 12 -12-1926    10-17-2005  b. East Prairie MO Mississippi co, d. Hutchinson ks reno co, S/O Thomas H. and Anna Hayden. A longtime Hutchinson resident, he was a superintendent for Majestic Pipeline, a pioneer in bringing gas pipeline technology throughout Canada in the 1950s and 60s. He was also the owner of Hayden Construction Inc. He was a U.S. Army veteran from 1945 to 1947, serving in the Korean Conflict and a Combat Engineer in World War II. On July 2, 1947, he married Leona Schenkel in Hot Springs, Ark. She died Nov. 3, 1997. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Shirley Chaney and Joanne Forrester.

He was a member of Beta Gamma Sigma Honorary Society with the KU School of Business, Lysle Rishel American Legion Post No. 68, Bob Campbell Veterans of Foreign Wars, served on the Board of Directors at Central Bank and Trust Co., past chairman of the former Grace Hospital during the merger into Hutchinson Hospital, served on the boards of Health Care Inc. and the Hutchinson Hospital, past president and served on the boards of USD No. 308 Hutchinson public schools, Hutchinson Kiwanis Club, Hutchinson Symphony, Hutchinson Chamber of Commerce, Prairie Dunes Country Club, the Kansas Association of Insurance Agents and was a State Director serving on the National Association of Insurance Agents. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army during World War II, serving as a First Lieutenant, 4th Armored Division from 1943 to 1946, receiving the Bronze Star Medal and the Battlefield Commission. On Aug. 17, 1940, he married Dorothy Shields in Dallas, Texas. She died July 8, 1996. He was preceded in death by a son, Stephen Kent Kline; and a brother, John Kline.

She was preceded in death by three brothers, Glenn, Howard and Lester Davidson; a sister, Velma Teeter; and a grandson, Jeremy Bankey.

She was born on the family farm north of Hutchinson, the firstborn child of Charles William and Iowa Gabriella Vincent Rowland.   She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, William V. Rowland; two sisters, Mary Elizabeth Morris and Alice Clyfton Wempe; and several great- and great-great-nephews and nieces.

He enlisted in the U.S. Army on March 14, 1996. Nick was currently serving his second tour of duty in Iraq. He was a member of Alpha Company, 1st Battalion, 13th Armor Regiment at Ft. Riley. He enjoyed baseball and basketball, but most of all, spending time with his family.

She was a longtime Hutchinson resident, and she was a retired employee at the Hutchinson Bag Corp. She was a member of Emanuel Lutheran Church, Hutchinson.  On June 22, 1947, she married Norman H. Sharkey at Wichita. He died May 4, 1991.

A resident of Hutchinson since 1937, she was a former employee of Hutch Bag Co. On July 24, 1938, she married William A. Shepherd. He died June 1, 1944. She was preceded in death by four brothers; and four sisters.

"Ed" Smith M.D.; two brothers, Emett and Dayton Fox; three sisters, Alta Mitchell, Florence Ellers and Erma Edwards; and a granddaughter, Brenda Barrington.

D/O O.J. and Margaret Schroder Moran. She graduated from Sylvia High School in 1937. A longtime Reno County resident, raised in the Sylvia Community, she was a homemaker. Prior to World War II, she worked at Kress's at Hutchinson, and during the war she worked at an airplane manufacturing plant in California. He was preceded in death by a son, Dennis; six brothers, Alfred, Lester, Floyd, Alvin, Earl and Merlin Moran; a sister, Viola Bright; and a daughter-in-law, Pam S. Snowbarger.

He was a 1945 graduate of Alden High School, 1955 graduate of Ottawa University with a B.A., Ottawa, Kan., 1959 graduate of Fort Hays State University with his M.S., Hays, and received his Doctorate in School Psychology from the University of Northern Colorado in 1969, Greeley, Colo. A resident of Colorado Springs since 1964, he was a nationally certified school psychologist, retiring in 1999 after spending 42 years teaching in Alden, Sterling, McPherson and Colorado Springs. He belonged to First Presbyterian Church of Colorado Springs, Colo., and many professional and educational organizations where he held numerous offices. He served in the U.S. Army from 1946 to 1947 in the Occupation of Japan. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers; and two sisters.

He belonged to St. Teresa's Catholic Church, where he served as altar boy, usher and Eucharistic minister; Knight's of Columbus Council No. 612; American Legion Lysle Rishel Post No. 68 and VFW Bob Campbell Post No. 1361, all in Hutchinson. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.

S/O Ramond Clarence and Lula Meyers Werner. A resident of Hutchinson since 1945, he worked for American Optical for 25 years, retiring in 1982, later working for Cessna.
He belonged to Community Church of the Brethren. He served in the U.S. Army Air force during World War II.
On April 6, 1944, he married Esther L. Arnold in Aurora, Colo. She died July 31, 2001. He was preceded in death by a son, Dennis in 1996.

A longtime resident of Hutchinson who had also lived in San Diego, Calif., she was a bank conversion specialist for Data Center Inc. She also worked for First National Bank and Hutchinson National Bank.  She belonged to Credit Women International Credit Professionals of Hutchinson, where she had served as past president. She received the State Credit Woman of the Year Award.  She was preceded in death by her father.
