Well Known Business Man N. J. Eby Dies This A. M. 

Was Ill Since Christmas – Part Owner of the Monarch Smoke House for 25 Years.

This morning at 9:45 o’clock occurred the death of Nathan J. Eby at his home 114 Fourth avenue east.  Mr. Eby has been ill for some time and had not been able to be down town at his place of business since Christmas.  Mr. Eby was one of the owners of the Monarch Smoke House and has been in business her for more than twenty-five years.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Alice Eby and three sons, Maurice S., of Sorrento, Louisiana; Fred C., of this city and Elbert E., of Columbus, Ohio.  A step-daughter, Miss Elsie Riddel, also survives.  All of the children have been here for the past few days.  Mr. Eby was born in Ohio, 1842, and was 75 years 3 months and 8 days old.  His first wife passed away about seventeen years ago and sometime later he was married to Miss Alice Franklin.

Mr. Eby was a member of the G.A.R. and served through the entire Civil war having enlisted in the new company B Seventh Illinois regiment.  The local G. A. R. post will have charge of the funeral services which will be held from the home at 114 Fourth avenue east with the Rev. Horace Cole officiating.  The hour has been announced as 2:30 p.m.
