Etta Belle Toms Obituary

Etta B. Toms, nee Freeman, was born in Vermillion county Indiana, June 13, 1871, and died at her home five miles east of Arlington April 10, 1909, age 37 years, 9 months and 28 days.  She came with her parents to Kansas in 1871 and located at Longton, Elk county, where she resided until she was united in marriage to Geo. L. Toms, Feb 9th 1887.  To this union were born eight children, four boys and four girls, all of whom survive her.

She was converted and joined the Methodist church in early life, and adorned the church of her choice until the Master called her from the church militant unto the church triumphant.

Her life was one of gentleness and sunshine.  She was devoted to her family and her greatest desire to live was for their sake, however, she said, “thy will be done,” and peacefully closed her eyes to earthy scenes and went to be with Christ which is far better.

The funeral service was conducted from the home by the writer, Tuesday noon, after the body was taken to Longton, Kan. For burial.

She leaves to mourn her departure a husband, eight children, father, mother, three brothers, one sister and a host of friends.

The bereaved family have the sympathy of the community in their time of sorrow.
