The State Library of Kansas has the series, THE FORGOTTEN SETTLERS OF KANSAS, in the library and available on interlibrary loan. We only have volumes 3-12. You can access our online catalog, ATLAS

    1. Do a title search for "Forgotten settlers of Kansas." When you bring up the page that has that title with the volumes located at the State Library of Kansas listed print that off and take it to your local library. You can request an interlibrary loan via your local library from the State Library of Kansas for the volumes you're interested in seeing.
    2. And while you're on the online catalog, ATLAS, take a look around. This is also the online catalog for the Kansas State Historical Society and the Society has a lot of microfilmed material in this catalog (for Kansas and other states as well.... notably Illinois and Ohio county histories) that you can also borrow. The Society ONLY lends microfilmed material though so don't try requesting paper items from them.

Links to Scottish Surname Information

Is your surname of Scottish origin? Did you know your name of Thompson/Thomson may be of Scottish origin and not English? The surnames are ones found in the "Surnames of Scotland" by Prof. George Black. "Surnames of Scotland" is recommended by NAS (National Archives of Scotland) as a book to use in your research of your Scottish surname. Click on the link for "Scottish Surnames Information" to access the webpage.  Of course, to determine your own heritage, you must research your own family.
