STOCKTON — Lilly R. Schleusener, 87, Stockton, died Saturday, Dec. 30, 2006.  Mrs. Schleusener was born Lilly R. Mosel on June 18, 1919, in Orchard, Neb. She was a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by an infant son, Eldon.
Survivors include her husband, Alfred O., of the home; two sons, William of Grand Island, Neb., and Keith of Utica, Neb.; two daughters, Cynthia Cahill of Danbury, N.H., and Brenda Stanley of Abrams, Wis.; two brothers, Walter of Neligh, Neb., and Gilbert of Orchard; 12 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Smith-Moore-Overlease Funeral Home, 723 N. First, Stockton 67669. Burial will be in Stockton Cemetery.

McPherson-Edna M. Wiggins, 96, McPherson, died Wednesday, Dec. 20, 2006.  Mrs. Wiggins was born Edna M. Glendening on Jan. 17, 1910, in Codell.  She was a homemaker.  Her husband, Vaughn E., died in 1979
Survivors include a daughter, Judy Potter of McPherson; a son, Charles of Athena, Ore.; nine grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Free Methodist Church, McPherson. Burial will be in McPherson Cemetery.

Velia V. Stuchlik, 95, Hill City, died Wednesday, Dec. 13, 2006, at Dawson Place Nursing Home, Hill City.  She was born Jan 12, 1911, in rural Gove County to U.G. and Karrie Belle (Siegrist) Smith.  She married Ancil Stuchlik on Nov. 18, 1932, in Stockton. He preceded her in death Feb. 14, 1995.
Survivors include a son, Wyman Stuchlik, Manhattan, Mont.; a daughter, Marlayne Boller, Norton; a sister, Elsie Lott, Hill City; 10 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Stinemetz Funeral Home, Hill City; burial in Hill City Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Monday and from 2 p.m. until time of service Tuesday, both at the funeral home.

Vernon Coddington, 79, Hill City, died Tuesday, Dec. 12, 2006, at Graham County Hospital, Hill City.  He was born Sept. 17, 1927, in Palco to Lawrence H. and Della A. (Anderson) Coddington.  He married Doris Aust on Dec. 18, 1948, in Norton. He was a farm-equipment salesman.
Survivors include three sons, Steven D. Coddington, Johnstown Colo., Delton D. Coddington, Aurora, Colo., and Alan B. Coddington, Fort Collins, Colo.; a daughter, Cheryl Schneider, Gardner; 10 grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at First Assembly of God Church, Hill City; burial in Hill City Memorial Lawn Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. today at Stinemetz Funeral Home, Hill City, and from 10 a.m. until time of service Saturday at the church.

Jessie M. Carmack, 72, Palco, died Sunday, Dec. 10. 2006, at her home.  She was born July 11, 1934, in Chicago to Robert and Norva (Cosgrove) Cleveland.   She married Kenneth Carmack. He preceded her in death. She was a medical secretary.
Survivors include a son, James Carmack, Leavenworth; a daughter, Julie Cleveland, Portland, Ore.; a sister, Judith Busby, Palco; and a grandson.
Inurnment took place in Prescott, Ariz.

DAMAR — Ernest “Ernie” Darnell, 87, Damar, died Monday, Dec. 11, 2006.Mr. Darnell was born April 24, 1919, in Waldo. He was a farmer.
He was preceded in death by two sons and two granddaughters.
Survivors include his wife, Zelda Mae, of Damar; a son, Shane; three daughters, Marilyn Darnell of Hutchinson, Carolyn Terry of Plainville and Shannon Kibel of Bogue; a brother, Gary of Plainville; three sisters, Hope Denton of Colorado, Maxine Campbell of Texas and Helen DeGarmo of Alaska; 17 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

 Mildred Louise Thummel, 103, Esbon, died Monday, Dec. 4, 2006, at Long Term Care, Smith Center.  She was a housewife.
Survivors include a son, Ted Thummel, Esbon; two daughters, JoAnn Bennett, Stockton, and Jean Brogdon, Raytown, Mo.; 14 grandchildren; 24 great-great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Greg; a daughter, Elizabeth; and two grandchildren.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Esbon; burial in St. Elizabeth Catholic Cemetery, Esbon.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday at Simmons-Olliff-Boeve Chapel, and from 6 to 8 p.m. at the church, Esbon, with a rosary at 7 p.m.

Doris Ellen (Dinkel) Palmberg, 73, Hays, died Sunday, Dec. 3, 2006, at St. John's of Hays.  She was born Oct. 15, 1933, in Morland to Ira and Zelma (Keith) Bell.  She married Edward Dinkel on April 7, 1952, in St. Peter. He preceded her in death July 13, 1970. She later married Albert Palmberg on Aug. 5, 1972. He preceded her in death Jan. 5, 1995. She was a homemaker, crafter and collector.  She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.
Survivors include four sons, Gary Dinkel, Loveland, Colo., Don Dinkel and Leon Dinkel and wife, Celeste, all of Hays, and Alan Dinkel and wife, Marlena, Plainville; six grandchildren, Heath Dinkel, Cody Dinkel, Kayla Dinkel, Garet Dinkel, Alena Dinkel and Alessa Dinkel.
She was preceded in death by her parents, five brothers, Gilbert Bell, Maynard Bell, William Bell, Duane Bell and Leonard Bell, and a sister, Mildred Bell Hunsicker.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Joseph Catholic Church; burial at 2:30 p.m. in St. Anthony Cemetery, St. Peter.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday and 9 to 10:15 a.m. Thursday at Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home, 20th and Pine, Hays.
A parish vigil service will be at 6 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Warren, in 2003; and a daughter, Connie Melton.
Survivors include a daughter, Judy Blecha of Plainville; three sons, Kent of Stockton, Keith of rural Woodson and Kevin of Salina; four sisters, Ruby Jackson of Stockton, Leona Silvers of Haven, Dorothy Dibble of Alton and Rosilee Folsom of Plainville; 15 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the United Methodist Church, Plainville. Burial will be in Survey Cemetery, rural Woodston.

EDGEWATER, Colo. — Bill Byrnes, 54, Edgewater, died Sept. 11, 2006.Mr. Byrnes was born March 12, 1952, in Natoma, Kan.
Survivors include his mother, Reba Byrnes, of Frankfort, Kan., and a sister, Erma Davis of Denver.
A memorial service was held at Mountain View Friends Meeting House in Denver. A graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Chalk Mound Cemetery, Woodston, Kan., with a reception following at Mt. Ayr Friends Church in Alton, Kan.

ZURICH — Velma Lorraine Mendenhall, 72, Zurich, died Sunday, Nov. 12, 2006.  Mrs. Mendenhall was born Velma Lorraine Meitler on May 20, 1934, in rural Sylvan Grove. She was a retired cook.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Delwin, in 1985; and a great-granddaughter.
Survivors include two daughters, Jeanie Cameron of Abilene and Sharon McLaughlin of Zurich; four sons, Randy of Perryton, Texas, Rocky of Salina, Rick of Garden City and Reggy of Pratt; a brother, Pete Meitler of Plainville; two sisters, Mary Gier and Helen Posusta, both of Lincoln; 18 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at First Lutheran Church, Plainville. A private burial will be in Zurich Cemetery at a later date.

COLBY — Paul J. Bedore, 72, Colby, died Monday, Oct. 30, 2006.  Mr. Bedore was born Aug. 20, 1934, in Zurich. He was a retired service station technician.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Phillip and Melvina (Thyfault) Bedore; and two sisters, Marie Zoberst and Louise Harper.
Survivors include his wife, Esther, of Colby; two sons, Rock of Colby and Rory of Las Vegas; a granddaughter, Rockell Bedore; and three sisters, Cordelia Jespersen and Phyllis Kriss, both of Colby, and Christina Vassilakes of Denver.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Colby United Methodist Church, Pastor Francis Harwerth officiating. Burial will be in Beulah Cemetery, Colby.

Survivors include his mother, Zeta Zellmer, of Norton; a daughter, Clarissa; his companion, Deb Taylor, and her children, Tina, Trisha and Jaime of Plainville; and two sisters, Oneta Walker of Colby and Wanda Warner of Burr Oak.

ELLINWOOD - Nancy Clair, 91, Ellinwood, formerly of Stockton, died Sunday, Oct. 15, 2006.  Mrs. Clair was born Nancy Wise on Jan. 22, 1915. She was a homemaker, cleaned homes, hung wallpaper and painted for many people in the Stockton area.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George, in 1984; and a son, Donald, in 1950.
Survivors include a son, Robert "Bob" of Colby; a daughter, Judy Hunter of Great Bend; two sisters, Ellen Kleinschmidt of Plainville and Ruth Wingate of Ulysses, Neb.; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

She was a Topeka High School graduate and attended Washburn University.  She married Dr. Arnold M. Pederson on Jan. 1, 1946, in Topeka.
Survivors include her husband, of the home; two sons, Douglas Scott Pederson, Topeka, and Ronald Jay Pederson, Louisville, Ky.; two daughters, Christine Pederson, Santa Fe, N.M., and Janice Sue Becker, Frontenac; a sister Susan Sjoholm, Junction City; seven grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

Survivors include a son, Dee of Bella Vista, Ark.; a daughter, Wanda Cramer of Sierra Vista, Ariz.; 11 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren.

Opal Hartwig, 82, Plainville, died Monday, Oct. 9, 2006, at Via Christi Regional Medical Center-St. Francis, Wichita.  She was born Nov. 17, 1923, near Neola to Jacob Earl and Sarah Margaret (Newell) Nelson. She graduated from Turon High School in 1940.  She married Carl Hartwig on July 19, 1947, in Turon. He preceded her in death March 30, 1973. She had been a lab technician at Plainville Rural Hospital.
Survivors include nieces and nephews.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at First Christian Church, Plainville; burial in Neola Cemetery.

Greta Nadine Balthazor, 75, WaKeeney, died Tuesday, Sept. 12, 2006, at her home.  She was born June 14, 1931, in Zurich to Andrew and Thelma (Vandenburg) Anderson.  She married Gilbert Balthazor on Sept. 13, 1949, in Zurich. They later divorced.  She was a homemaker and worked as a clerk for truck stops.
Survivors include four sons, Michael Balthazor, WaKeeney, David Balthazor, Chesapeake, Va., Myron Balthazor, Ottawa, and Max Balthazor, Palco; a daughter, Jana Zillinger, Logan; a brother, Robert Anderson, Denver; a sister, Kathy David, Aurora, Colo.; 11 grandchildren; and two great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Alan Balthazor.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Schmitt Funeral Home, WaKeeney. The body was cremated.

Donald E. Meistrell, 86, Plainville, died Sunday, Sept. 3, 2006, at the Rooks County Medical Center, Plainville.  He was born May 28, 1920, in Plainville the son of John and Mary (Bailey) Meistrell. He was a1938 graduate of Plainville High School and attended the Aviation Institute of Denver in 1941. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army.  He married Charlene Mock on Dec. 29, 1941, in Wichita. He was the owner-operator of the PlainvilleBowling Alley and retired from Schult Mobile Home Factory.
Survivors include his wife, of the home; son Robert “Bob” Meistrell; and three grandchildren.
Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at the First Christian Church, Plainville; burial in the Plainville Cemetery.

Schmidtberger.  He married Mary Ellen Harvey on Feb. 17, 1973, in Atwood. They have lived in Gardner for the last 17 years. He worked as a carpenter for Lee Schmidt Construction, Gardner, for 15 years. He was also a foreman for Reese Construction, Sandia. This company built bridges.  He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus, Gardner.
Survivors include his wife, of the home; a son, Jamie Schmidtberger and Kiley Weston, Edgerton; two daughters, Katina Castro and husband, Armando, Itasca, Texas, and Janie Schmidtberger, Gardner; his mother, Victoria; mother-in-law, Rose Harvey, Huron, S.D.; a brother, Loren Schmidtberger and wife, Donna, Colby; three sisters, Sharon Jensen and husband, Ed, Pocatello, Idaho, and Jolene Francis and husband, Richard, Centennial, Colo., and Vickey Wederski and husband, Dave, Puduach, Texas; five grandchildren; and 12 nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father; and father-in-law, Roland Harvey.

King on March 9, 1940. He preceded her in death Nov. 21, 2001.  She was a homemaker and was employed at Shaw Hotel and Coffee Shop, Duckwalls and Unrein Drug Store in Plainville.
Survivors include one son, Norman King, and wife, Bonnie, Ogden, Utah; one daughter, Margaret Bettis and husband, Harold, Hays; one sister, Henrietta Jacobs, St. Petersburg, Fla.; one brother, Francis Harman of  Peachtree City, Ga.; four grandchildren, two step-grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by four sisters, Clara Aust, Ada McIntosh, Rosie Baker and Eve Baker; and three brothers, Arthur, Harry and Walter "Sonny" Harman.

Survivors include his wife, of the home; two daughters, Donna Skellham, Woodstock, Ga., and Wilda Simpson, Covington, Ky.; a stepson Collin Hockett, Plainville; three stepdaughters, Belinda Hockett, Colorado Springs, Colo., Jerlyn Sullivan, Troy, and Percie Ashcroft, Woodland Park, Colo.; three brothers, James Simpson, Colorado Springs, William “Bill” Simpson, Denver, and Daniel Simpson, Locust Grove, Va.; and seven step-grandchildren.

Blakesley on June 15, 1931, in Holyoke, Colo. She was deputy clerk of the district court in Rooks County for many years, retiring in 1977.  She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, an active Senior Companion and Hadley Hospital Auxiliary volunteer.
Survivors include a son, Claude R. Blakesley and wife, Margaret, Hutchinson; a daughter, Louisa B. Morain and husband, Roy, Stockton; 14 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; and 17 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, James Eugene Blakesley; and a daughter, Mary Leota Harrington, and two sisters.

She married Stanley L. Harman on June 20, 1992, in Munjor.  She worked at The Hays Daily News and Central Plains Lab, both in Hays. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Hays. She has lived in Hays since 1970.
Survivors include her husband, of the home; a son, Scott Alan Rome, Olathe; her mother, Frances Casey, McCracken; six brothers, Daryl Casey and wife, Barbara, Copeland, Donald Casey and wife, Melodie, Johnson, Jim Casey and wife, Karin, Hanston, Jerry Casey and wife, Karen, Plainville, Kevin Casey, Bella Vista, Ark., and Chris Casey and companion, Dare Rucker, Wichita; four sisters, Karen Shumake and companion, Don Middleton, Saginaw, Texas, Cheryl Wiesner and husband, Phil, Hays, Carolyn Schadel and husband, Edgar, Alexander, and Laura Linsey and husband, Russell, McCracken; brother and sisters-in-law, Art and Connie Augustine, Bixby, Okla., and Sue Noone, Gunnison, Colo.; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
 She was preceded in death by her father, her first husband, her grandparents, Patrick and Sarah (McGaughey) Casey, and Herman and Katherine (Flax) Kisslinger.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Hays; burial in St. Joseph Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Sunday and from 8:30 to 9:45 a.m. Monday, all at Cline's Mortuary of Hays, 1919 E. 22nd.
Vigil services will be at 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Rose Marie Rome, 94, Hays, formerly of Damar, died Saturday, July, 8, 2006, at Hays Medical Center.  She was born Aug. 11, 1911, in Victoria to Peter and Anna Maria (Braun) Rome. She graduated from cosmetology school in Salina and enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, serving in England, France, Germany, Japan and several bases in the U.S. during World War II. She retired from the service in 1963 and received her LPN license in California. She was a licensed practical nurse until her retirement.
Survivors include a brother, Bob Schamber; two sisters, Laura Bauck, and Tony Campbell; a nephew, Leonard Schamber and wife, Linda; a great-niece, Erin Hernandez; a great-nephew, John Schamber; and many other nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by seven brothers, Alex Rome, Pete Rome, Andy Rome, Richard Schamber, Alfred Schamber, Leonard J. Schamber and Clarence Schamber; and five sisters, Hilda Ross, Margaret Nagliera, Helen White, Leona Stange Brungardt Befort, and Olivia Rome.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Joseph Church, Damar. Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. Friday at Kansas Veterans Cemetery, WaKeeney, with military honors by McConnell Air Force Base.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday and from 10 a.m. until time of service Friday, all at the church.
Vigil services will be at 7 p.m. Thursday at the church.

Harold F. Beck, 91, Plainville, formerly of Natoma, died Wednesday, July 5, 2006, at Rooks County Health Center, Plainville.  He was born Sept. 18, 1914, to Alva John and Lulu Bell (Hecox) Beck. He was a 1933 graduate of Natoma High School.  He married Reva Rigby on Sept. 12, 1937, in Lincoln. She preceded him in death on Feb. 25, 1998.
Survivors include a son, Harold “Bud” Beck Jr., Russell; three daughters, Deanna Becker, Plainville, Beverly Hachmeister, Natoma, and Anita Griffin, Alton; 10 grandchildren; two step granddaughters; and 27 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a grandson, Ricky Griffin, on Jan. 17, 2004.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Natoma United Methodist Church; burial in Natoma City Cemetery.

Louise Newell, 59, former area resident, died Sunday, June 25, 2006, at her home in Mesa, Ariz.  She was born March 22, 1947, in Damar to Lawrence and Rita (Brin) Newell. She was a graduate of Damar High School.  She married Bernard Wayne Schmidt on June 4, 1966, in Damar. He preceded her in death Oct. 30, 1969. She was a school cook in the Plainville school system and moved to Las Vegas in 1992 where she was a casino cashier. She moved to Mesa in 2005.
She is survived by three sons, Brad Schmidt, Las Vegas, Brian Schmidt, Tempe, Ariz., and Bennie Schmidt, Chandler, Ariz.; three brothers, Harold Newell, Damar, Leland Newell, Hays, and Dale Newell, Wichita; four sisters, Albertine Garcia and Kathleen Brown, both of Hill City, her twin, Lois Sumner, Colby, and Carmen Sims, Sedan; her mother-in-law, Ann Schmidt, Plainville; four grandchildren, Cole and Ashley Frimmel, and Amanda and Savannah Schmidt; and many acquaintances.
She was preceded in death by an infant brother, Michael Newell.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Damar; burial in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Plainville.

He preceded her in death Aug. 31, 2002. She was a teacher.

Richard Jakoplic, 82, Hutchinson, formerly of Stockton, died Saturday, May 27, 2006, at Hutchinson Hospital.  He was born March 10, 1924, in Chicago to Charles and Marie Jakoplic.  He was a graduate of Bound Brook High School, Bound Brook, N.J.  He married Marion Catherine Day on June 12, 1948, in Millington, N.J.   She preceded him in death on March 1, 1997. He was an electrical engineer for Research Cottrell, New Jersey.
Survivors include two sons, James Jakoplic, Singapore, and Thomas Jakoplic, Burrton; one brother, Charles Jakoplic, Bridgewater, N.J.; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Cremation has taken place.

Harvey J. Knoll Sr., 80, Osborne, died Monday, May 15, 2006, at his home. .He was born Dec. 21, 1925, in Osborne County to Wils and Celestes (Ulmer) Knoll.  He married Mary Lou McKinney on June 8, 1945.  He was founder, owner and president of Knoll Building Maintenance, Osborne.

He preceded her in death April 27, 1993. She was a homemaker and was a member of St. Thomas Catholic Church, serving as the church organist for many years and St. Thomas Altar Society and Monroe-Taylor-Barnes Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 8873, all of Stockton. She enjoyed cooking and especially enjoyed her flower garden.

Survivors include his wife, Mary, of the home; two sons, Seth Brin and Luke Brin, both of Plainville; a daughter, Lacey Brin, Plainville; his mother, Elaine Brin, Damar; four brothers, Marty Brin, Great Bend, Arlen Brin, Zurich, Galen Brin, Olathe, and David Brin, Hays; and a sister, Sheri Webb, Logan.
He was preceded in death by his father and a brother, Tracy Brin.

He worked in the oil fields and was a mechanic for Schult Manufacturing, Plainville, later working in the maintenance department.
Survivors include his wife, of the home; two daughters, Tina Gilliland and husband, Todd, Plainville, and Melissa Collins, Woodston; a brother, Elmer Merklinger, Victoria, Texas; a sister, Rita Younker, Plainville; and six grandchildren, Casey Bunganski, Andy Brown, Connor Collins, Harrison Gilliland, Rachel Gilliland and Mary Gilliland.
He was preceded in death by a son, Scott Merklinger, in 1990.

He was a graduate of Hoxie High School and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.  He married JoAnn Ploeger on June 13, 1953, in Hoxie.  He was a road maintainer for Rooks County, retiring in 1998.

She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
Survivors include her husband, Troy E. Fulton, Centennial Towers, Hays; a son, Robert E. Fulton and wife, Alice, Las Vegas; a daughter, Patricia Kysar and husband, Doug, Palco; three brothers, William Hupp, Pueblo, Colo., H. R. Jim Hupp, Florence, Ariz., and David Hupp, San Francisco; six grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents.

Ruby Pearl Miller Urban, 85, Hays, died Tuesday, March 14, 2006, at her home.  She was born May 5, 1920, near Natoma to Gavin L. and Rebecca Pearl (Clair) Finch. She attended Craig Elementary School.  She married Irvin Miller on Dec. 24, 1936, in Hays. He preceded her in death May 1, 1984. She later married Sylvester Urban on Feb. 2, 1990, in Hays. She was a homemaker.
Survivors include her husband, of the home; a son, Duane Miller, Russell; two stepsons, Barry and Randy Urban, Bison; three stepdaughters, Gloria Lange and Janice Urban, both of Hays; and Donna Leiker, Munjor; two brothers, Lawrence Finch, Natoma, and Orval Finch, Plainville; several grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary Catholic Church, Russell; burial in Russell City Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. today with parish rosary at 6:30 p.m. followed by parish vigil at Pohlman-Heise Mortuary, 610 N. Maple, Russell.

Roy W. Brewer, 76, Hill City, died Monday, March 13, 2006, at his home.  He was born Feb. 5, 1930, in Alva, Okla., to Milo Andrew and Elsie Delilah (Bittner) Brewer.  He married Linda Rudolf on April 30, 1971, in Beaver City, Neb. He was a cowboy.
Survivors include his wife, of the home; a daughter, Jennifer Stroda, Plainville; and two grandchildren.

Robert J. McClay, 82, Stafford, Texas, formerly of Stockton, died Friday, Nov. 25, 2005, in Houston.  He was born Aug. 19, 1923, in Plainville. He was a 1943 graduate of Stockton High School. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.  He married Alice Louise Lightfoot in 1946. She preceded him in death Dec. 22, 1966. He was a pipeline engineer for several companies in the Houston area.
Survivors include three daughters, Cheryl McFarlin, Houston, Flora Chaka, Stafford, Texas, and Janet Folino, Cochise, Ariz.; and three grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Julie Christy, on Sept. 11, 2003.
Graveside memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Stockton Cemetery.

Wilmer L. Hanson, 87, Holdrege, Neb., died Saturday, March 11, 2006, at Christian Homes, Holdrege.  He was born Sept. 21, 1918, near Holdrege to Earl Wilmer and Tillie (Nelson) Hanson. He was a 1935 graduate of Holdrege High School and a graduate of University of Nebraska-Lincoln. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II.  He married Martha “Ruth” Caddy on Sept. 8, 1945, in Lincoln, Neb. She preceded him in death May 26, 1993. He was a farmer near Loomis until his retirement in 1992.
Survivors include two sons, John W. Hanson, Lexington, Neb., and Steve Hanson, Damar; two daughters, Marjorie Baxter and Shirley Olson, both of Holdrege; two brothers, Earl Hanson Jr., Holdrege, and Sherrod Hanson, Loomis; three sisters, Doris Hollinger, Omaha, Neb., Dorothy Novak, Pleasant Dale, Neb., and Gladys Cole, Curtis, Neb.; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a grandson.

James D. “Jim” Norton, 74, Kearney, Neb., formerly of Plainville, died Thursday, March 9, 2006, at Good Samaritan Hospital, Kearney.  He was born June 12, 1931, in Quinter to John M. and Philemena “Minnie” (Linenberger) Norton. He was a 1949 graduate of Quinter High School. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.  He married Phyllis Jo Dunning on Nov. 27, 1951, in Hill City. He owned and operated Jim Norton's Tractor Service, Plainville, for over 35 years.
Survivors include his wife, of the home; two sons, Don Norton, Plainville, and Brad Norton, Kearney; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and five step grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at First Christian Church, Plainville; burial at 2:30 p.m. in Kansas Veterans Cemetery, WaKeeney.

PLAINVILLE — Kenneth LeRoy passed away on March 7 at the Rooks County Nursing Home, Plainville. He was the only son born to Ray and Anna Blanch (Batman) LeRoy on April 22, 1932, in Great Bend. He graduated from Hudson High School in 1950 and entered the Army shortly thereafter. He married Orpha Alice Witt in June, 1952. He was stationed at the military bases in Fort Riley, El Paso, Texas, and Fairbanks, Ala., and was discharged from the Army in 1956. Kenneth lived most of his life on the family farm near Seward. He was a member of Peace United Church of Christ in Hudson. In 1989, he suffered from a stroke and had to leave the farm for health reasons. He resided at Cherry Village Nursing Home, Great Bend and Rooks County Nursing Home, Plainville, until his death.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Marian Sillin. He leaves behind four children, Kathy Marren of Fort Collins, Colo., Mike LeRoy (Jessie) of Saint John, Kristy Moore (Mark) of Fort Collins, Colo., and Karen Westhusin (Fred) of Plainville. He also leaves behind a sister, Norma Fischer (Herman, Jr.) of Seward; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services are to be held at Charter Funeral Home in Great Bend on Saturday, March 11, at 1 p.m. with Pastor Wade Russell presiding, burial at the Great Bend cemetery with military honors provided by Fort Riley. Visitation will be 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Friday, March 10, at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests any memorials to be given to Rooks County Nursing Home, Plainville.

Oscar M. Pyle, 91, Plainville, died Monday, March 6, 2006, at Rooks County Nursing Home.  He was born May 2, 1914, in Bristow, Okla., to John O. and Constance O. (Hobbs) Pyle. He was a graduate of Okmulgee High School, Okmulgee, Okla. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.  He married Mary F. Riley on June 29, 1940, in Bristow. She preceded him in death.  He worked for the Mobil Oil Corp. for 36 years, with most of his time spent in Kansas, Oklahoma and Alaska.
Survivors include a son, John W. Pyle, Hays; a daughter, Constance M. Conyac, Stockton; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Chris “Montie” M. Pyle in 1969.
Memorial graveside services will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at the Plainville City Cemetery.
His body was cremated. There will be no visitation.

Kreutzer on April 29, 1967, in Victoria. She preceded him in death on May 18, 1996.  He was a lifetime resident of the Ellis County area and was an auto detailer. He was a member of St. Fidelis Catholic Church, Victoria.
Survivors include a son, John Braun, Walker; a daughter, Kathy Stenzel and husband, Myron, Hays; a sister, Mary Braun, Plainville; two brothers-in-law, Fred Rohr, Victoria, and Orville Clark, Palco; five sisters-in-law, Irene Brown, Clarita Braun and Rosie Kreutzer, all of Victoria, Carol Foos, Great Bend, and Mary Walter, Millstadt, Ill.; and a granddaughter, Emily Stenzel.

He retired as a Plainville resident teacher at Plainville High School after 35 years.  He married Dorothy Stanley on Sept. 20, 1942, in Hays.
Survivors include his wife; son, Rod Smrcka, El Dorado Hills, Calif.; daughters, Virginia, Julia, Mary; seven grandchildren, and nine great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Odessa, Norman Leigh Dopita, 77, a longtime resident of Odessa passed away Tuesday, February 21, 2006 at his residence. He was born May 28, 1928 in Plainville, Kansas to Anthony & Mayme Dopita. He served in the Navy from 1946 to 1948. He married Mary LaRayne Botterman January 11, 1946 in Plainville, KS. He was a retired contract welder with Pipeliners Union Local 798. He was a member of the V.F.W. and St. Mary’s Catholic Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Daniel Bruce Dopita, infant daughter, Margaret Dopita and brother, Robert Dean Dopita.

Goetz, 69, Hays, died Wednesday, Feb. 22, 2006, at his home.  He was born May 11, 1936, in Victoria to Raymond J. and Lioba Sophie (VonLintel) Goetz.  He married Donna Dinkel on Nov. 5, 1981, in Las Vegas. He owned Printcraft Printers since 1960 and started printing when he was 18.  He was a member of St. Fidelis Catholic Church, Victoria, and Knights of Columbus No. 1325 and American Legion, both of Hays.
Survivors include his wife, of the home; two sons, Chris Goetz and wife, Dana, Hays, and Mark Goetz and wife, Kelly, Broomfield, Colo.; three daughters, Lorna Doolittle and husband, Richard, Fort Worth, Texas, Tonya Goetz, Anchorage, Alaska, and Vanessa Goetz, Hays; a sister, Clarita Weigel-Mahoney, Stockton; four grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Arthur Goetz and Marvin Goetz; and three sisters, Lillian Boxberger, Evelyn Pike and Dolores Windholz.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Fidelis Catholic Church, Victoria; burial in St. Fidelis Cemetery, Victoria.

Dorothy Fowler, age 93, of Plantation, Florida, died Monday, February 20, 2006, at her home in Plantation. Dorothy was born April 30, 1912, in Trego County, Kansas, the daughter of George and Dollie (German) Glass. She was married for 50 years to Larry Fowler when he preceded her in death on November 16, 2002.  Dorothy was a remarkable lady and true friend who sacrificed and dedicated her life to her children. Dorothy was a member of Westlawn Baptist Church in Huntsville, Ala., where she was a resident for 50 years.
Dorothy is survived by two sons, Fred Fowler of Spring Lake, Mich., and Dr. Stephen C. Fowler of Lawrence, Kansas; one daughter, Dr. Michelle S. Leonard of Plantation, Fla.; three sisters, Veda Hayes of Lawrenceburg, Tenn., Norah Tolekes of Plainville, Kansas, and Dollie Engel of Hays, Kansas, and seven grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Larry Fowler, three brothers, Alfred, Roland and George; and one sister: Wilma Hamel.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, February 24, at Wasinger Keithley Funeral Chapel, 400 E. 17th, Ellis, with Pastor Lyle M. Knuth officiating..
Visitation will be Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Interment will be in Mount Hope Cemetery in Ellis.

Harold “Harry” Basgall, 80, Sacramento, Calif., formerly of Hays, died Thursday, Feb. 16, 2006.  He was born March 4, 1925, in Hays to Albert and Minnie (Leiker) Basgall. He was a graduate of St. Joseph Military Academy, Hays.  He married Jean Basgall in 1948, in Zurich. He had served in the U.S. Army for 30 years and was a veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife, of the home; two sons, Kurt Basgall, Elk Grove, Calif., and Scott Basgall, Modesto, Calif.; a daughter, Deborah Karpf, Haddam, Conn.; a brother; sisters; and two grandchildren.

Carl H. Thielenhaus, 82, Bison, died Sunday, Feb. 19, 2006, at Central Kansas Medical Center, Great Bend.  He was born Jan. 22, 1924, in rural Bison to John W. and Frieda (Hildebrand) Thielenhaus. He was a 1941 graduate of Bison High School.  He married Ruth Etta Scheuerman on Oct. 21, 1944, in rural Bison. She preceded him in death May 22, 2005. He was a farmer and stockman and former Rush County commissioner.
Survivors include a son, Carl H. Thielenhaus Jr. and wife, Terry K., Bison; a daughter, Peggy A. Young and husband, Guy H., Bison; two sisters, Martha Fritch, Chanute, and Clara Schultz, Plainville; seven grandchildren, Richard L. Thielenhaus, Lukes J. Thielenhaus, April K. Barnett, Erik W. Thielenhaus, Alan W, Foust, Brian H. Foust and Chad L. Foust.

Claude Elmer Archer, 96, Norton, died Friday, Nov. 17, 2006, at Andbe Home, Norton.  He was born Oct. 5, 1909, in the Cactus Community, Norton County, to Novel and Artensia Iuka (Atkinson) Archer. He attended the Cactus Rural Grade School.  He married Ellen Matilda Withington on May 14, 1931, in Stockton. She preceded him in death Feb. 13, 2006. He was a farmer.
Survivors include a son, Wayne Archer, Almena; a daughter, Wava Conard, Norton; two half brothers; two half sisters; four grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two grandsons.

Clinton Omer Dove, 82, Hays, formerly of Stockton, died Saturday, Feb. 11, 2006, at St. John's of Hays Nursing Home.  He was born Aug. 8, 1923, at Calhan, Colo., to George W. and Myrle (Ellis) Dove. He was a graduate of Stockton High School.  He married Lila Elaine Lenhard on Dec. 25, 1942. He first farmed and then was employed by Federal Crop Insurance, retiring in 1985 after 30 years of service.  He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Hays, and Masonic Lodge, Stockton.
Survivors include his wife, of the home; a son, George L. Dove, Topeka; two daughters, Lila L. Evans and Mary Lynn Dove, both of Phoenix; two grandchildren, Brenda Shupe and husband, Marty, and Eugene Dove; and six great-grandchildren, Levi Shupe, Amber Shupe, Courtney Shupe, Raina Shupe, Kristin Dove and Chelsea Dove.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Iva Lee McMillen.

Claude F. Cox, 88, Hays, formerly of the Palco area, died Saturday, Feb. 11, 2006, at St. John's Victoria Nursing Home.  He was born April 12, 1917, in Graham County to Orr and Winnie (Lewis) Cox. He was a graduate of Palco High School and served in the U.S. Army during World War II.  He married Trula Merrifield on April 3, 1949, in Minneapolis. He was a farmer until retirement in 1996.  He was a member of First United Methodist Church, Hays.
Survivors include his wife, of the home; two daughters, Phyllis Sanderbeck, Springfield, Ill., and Shirley Knipp, Scottsdale, Ariz.; and four grandchildren, Justin Knipp, Cathy Sanderbeck, Michael Sanderbeck and Matthew Sanderbeck.

Barton Greg “Bart” Willey, 64, in rural Hays, died Monday, Feb. 13, 2006, at his home.  He was born Sept. 5, 1941, in Nebraska City, Neb., to Robert and Phyllis (Gregory) Willey. He was a graduate of Sgt. Major Academy, Fort Bliss, Texas.  He married Doris “Dee” Bretton on July 21, 1978, in Stockton.  He was a retired master sergeant for the Kansas Army National Guard.
Survivors include his wife, of the home; a son, Dale Robert Willey and wife, Michelle, Hays; a daughter, Ann Hand and husband, Jeremy, Larned; his mother, Norton; a sister, Michelle Marsh, Norton; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and a niece.
He was preceded in death by a son, Andrew Willey.

Gates on May 3, 1951.  Delwin was a retired superintendent for the Samson Cos.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Royalyn Nelson; a grandson, Michael Shane Lumpkins; and a granddaughter, Lauren Rose Lumpkins.

He graduated from Clay Center High School. He moved to Stockton in 1934 to manage a grocery store. He later became owner-operator of Webster's Super Market for 48 years.  He married Eloise Briggs on May 19, 1935, in Beloit.

Olive M. Herron, 95, Scott City, died Sunday, Jan. 29, 2006, at Wheat State Manor, Whitewater, where she had been a resident following a severe stoke in October 2002.  She was born Sept. 17, 1910, in Rooks County to David James and Myrtle (Fulcher) Steeples.  She married Clyde Nutsch in 1933. He preceded her in death in 1938. She co-owned and operated a restaurant in Palco, and later pastored a church in the Arapahoe, Neb. area.  She then married James S. Herron in 1947, in Denver. She farmed northwest of Scott City for many years.
Survivors include a son, Nathan Herron, Scott City; two daughters, Ruth Deatrich, Wake Forest, N.C., and Mary Smith, Phillipsburg; 11 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren and step great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a grandson and a great-granddaughter.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church, Scott City; burial in Scott County Cemetery.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charley, in 2002; her parents, Anthony and Eda Adam; and a sister, Nettie Williams.

She served as a senior companion in Stockton for more than 25 years.

He preceded her in death Feb. 14, 1999.  She was a retired social worker and financial secretary.  She was a member of United Methodist Church United Methodist Women Tri-M Sunday School Class, Circle 2, served as secretary for Hutchinson Symphony for 25 years, facilitated Mother-to- Mother Ministries, helped form Reno County Child Care Association and volunteered for Hutchinson Community Ministry, Hospice of Reno County and Meals on Wheels.
Survivors include a daughter, Ann Baumer Pyle, Luray; a brother, Robert Paul Chesney, Woodston; three grandchildren, Dana Sue Farrar, Jennifer Ann Nicholson and David Lord Scott Nicholson; and four great-grandchildren, Rachel Lee Nicholson, David Wayne Nicholson, Summer Danielle Farrar and Susannah Jean Farrar.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Warren Kent Chesney and Homer Bruce Chesney.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at First United Methodist Church, Hutchinson, with the Revs. Mark Conard and Robert B. Brooks officiating; burial at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Survey Cemetery, rural Woodston.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson.

Lynd, 77, Hill City, died Thursday, Jan. 12, 2006, at Graham County Hospital, Hill City.  He was born May 22, 1928, in Hays to William Edward and Hilda Josephine (Johnson) Lynd.  He married Alice Ann Wahlborg on June 15, 1950, at Ogallah. She preceded him in death Nov. 30, 1997. He later married Darlene Birth on July 10, 2004, at Wichita.  He was a teacher and farmer.
Survivors include his wife, of the home; three daughters, Rynthia Mitchell and Yvonne Sustar, both of Wichita, and Gwendolyn Cooper, Woodston; five stepchildren; four brothers, Alden Lynd, Kremmling, Colo., Marvin Lynd, WaKeeney, Ronald Lynd, Alexandria, La., and Delmer Lynd, Ellis; a sister, Neva Butcher, WaKeeney; 11 grandchildren; 15 step grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and three step great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Kevin Lynd; and an infant daughter.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Church of God (Anderson, Ind. affiliation), Hill City; burial in WaKeeney Cemetery.

Bonnie Jo Kleinschmidt, 61, Topeka, died Thursday, Dec. 29, 2005, at Midland Hospice House.  She was born Nov. 11, 1944, in Hays to Lloyd and Norene (Carley) Davis. She was a 1962 graduate of Plainville Rural High School and attended Brown Mackie College, Salina.  She married John C. Kleinschmidt on Sept. 5, 1964, at Plainville.  She worked as an office manager for a law firm in Oakley for 12 years; judicial assistant to Judge Corwin Spencer and later for Judge Mary Beck Briscoe with the Kansas Court of Appeals for 18 years; and judicial assistant to Judge Mary Beck Briscoe, U.S. Court of Appeals, 10th Circuit in 1995.  She was a member of Crestview United Methodist Church, Crestview United Methodist Women and Faith Circle.
Survivors include her husband, of the home; a son, Scott Kleinschmidt; a daughter, Susan Poling; her mother; a brother, Gary Davis; and three grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her father.
She was cremated.
Memorial service was Jan. 3, 2006, at Crestview United Methodist Church, 2245 SW Eveningside Drive, Topeka, KS 66614.

She graduated from Jetmore High School and attended business college in Hutchinson.  She married Orland W. Rumford on April 27, 1952. She worked for the postal service carrying mail between Dodge City and Ford, retiring in 2000 after 36 years of service.
Survivors include her husband, of the home; two sons, Dennis Rumford and Neil Rumford, both of Dodge City; a daughter, Cynthia Lambert, Palco; a sister, Twila Smidt, Jetmore; and three grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a grandson.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Donna Sue; two grandchildren and a great-grandchild.

Herman Theodore Eilers, oldest son of Herman T. and Inez L. (Shubert) Eilers was born June 23, 1933, on the farmstead southwest of Plainville where he spent all of his childhood and teen years. He met his savior on Jan. 2, 2006, at the Rooks County Health Center, after a short illness. On Nov. 24, 1956, he married Shirley Marie Wells, daughter of Marie Hilda Bieker and Frank Warren Wells. To this union was born Inez Marie Eilers on Aug. 1, 1957. She died March 27, 1976; and Herman T. Eilers III, who was born Aug. 5, 1959, and died March 7, 1986. Survivors include his wife, of the home; a sister, Charlotte Rose Nelson and her husband, Ken, of Vancouver, Wash., and two children; a brother, Harold F. Eilers of Plainville and his five children; three grandsons, Jay Eilers and his wife, Liza, and four daughters of Plainville; Jeremy Eilers and his wife, Renee, and son of Zurich; Jessy Eilers and daughter-in-law, Nancy Barrette of Oklahoma; and a host of friends and relatives.  He was a member of the Sacred Heart Church, Knights of Columbus, American Legion, Kansas Peace Officers Association, AARP, National Rife Association, and a veteran having served the Marine Corps during the Korean War. He was a 1951 graduate of Plainville High School. Herman was the former police chief for the city of Plainville and a former deputy for Rooks County Sheriff's Office. Upon retirement, he involved himself with The Hays Daily News. Throughout his lifetime, he was employed in the oil field and with farming. He also enjoyed outdoor activities such as hunting and fishing, which he loved almost as much as sports, family, and his love of God.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 5 at the Sacred Heart Church, Plainville. Military graveside services by the Plainville VFW will be at Sacred Heart Cemetery, Plainville.
Visitation will be Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the Plainville Funeral Home, 320 S.W. 2nd, in Plainville, with a parish vigil scheduled for 7 p.m. at the funeral home. There will also be a Ladies Guild Rosary at 3 p.m., a Daughters of Isabella Rosary at 6:40 p.m., just before the vigil service, and a Knights of Columbus Rosary immediately following the vigil service. Also, refreshments will be served at the Plainville VFW after the vigil service.

Esther A. Biggs, age 87 of Manhattan, died Sunday, January 1, 2006 in the Honstead House at Meadowlark Hills Retirement Community.   She was born on December 6, 1918 in St. John, KS, the daughter of John W. and Alice Jane (Kennedy) Lill.   On December 31, 1937, she was united in marriage to Verlan L. Biggs, Sr. He preceded her in death in May 1995.   Esther was homemaker and a member of the Macksville Christian Church. She was a Girl Scout leader, an avid reader and a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She played the piano, sang in the church choir and also was the drum major for her college marching band in Edmond, OK.
She is survived by four children, Alice Anne Elliott and her husband Wayne of Reston, VA, Verlan Biggs, Jr. and his wife Jo of Moundridge, KS, Myron Biggs and his wife Kay of Monroe, GA and Brenda Parker and her husband Warren of Manhattan, KS; two sisters, Sarah Lock of Seattle, WA, Ruth Tuttle of Wheatridge, CO, Joe Lill and his wife Lilli of Falls Church, VA and Harlan Lill of Plainville, KS; six grandchildren, Garry Gurney, Shanen Elliott, Gale Coleman, Joel Biggs, Todd Biggs and Kaci Parker and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 P.M. Wednesday, January 4, 2006 at the Grace Baptist Church with Pastor Bob Arthur officiating. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Thursday, January 5, 2006 in the Farmington Cemetery in Macksville, KS.
