N. Miss Rachel Rex of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, was the name of Mrs. Rumbaugh before her marriage. At Wilson College she studied both vocal and instrumental music. She is a member of Hypatia and of the Eastern Star. Mr. Rumbaugh attended Washington and Jefferson University, and for some time was pipe organist in Clarksburg, West Virginia. Mrs. Schauffler, who before her marriage was Miss Margaret Lamb of Champaign, Illinois, attended the State University of Illinois. She has been prominent in the Attheneum and Kansas City Musical Clubs, is a member of the Saturday Afternoon Musical, and Twentieth Century Clubs. She is much interested in philanthropic work. Mr. Schauffler, who is a Pennsylvania man, is a member of the Country Club and Board of Commerce. Mr. and Mrs. Schauffler have one son, Edward. H. 258 North Clifton Avenue. Mrs. Schollenberger, (Miss Maude Elizabeth Gowen), has for the past ten years been Treasurer and Financial Secretary of the Wichita Hospital Board. She is Financial Chairman of the Y. W. C. A. Board, a member of the Twentieth Century Club, is prominently identified with the work of the Central Christian Church, and has great interest in philanthropic work. She has one little daughter, Mary Elizabeth. SCHNOOR, Mr. and Mrs. E. V. 3217 Victor Place. SCHROEDER, Mr. and Mrs. Howard 1624 Park Place. Until her marriage Mrs. Schroeder was Miss Maxie Aley. She attended Mt. Carmel Academy. Mr. Schroeder was a charter member of the Wichita Country Club. Both he and Mrs. Schroeder are prominently identified in the activities of St. John's Church. Their children are Howard Gill and Cordelia. SCHWERTNER, The Rt. Reverend August J. Roosevelt Avenue. The Right Reverend August Schwertner attended the Canisius Jesuit College in Buffalo, and St. Mary's Seminary in Ohio. He was ordained in 1897. On March 11, 1921, he was selected to be Bishop of the See of Wichita, and was consecrated on June 8, 1921. SEVIN, Dr. N. C. 921 Faulkner Avenue. Dr. Sevin was graduated from Pennsylvania University. Elmer Siedhoff, son of Mr. and Mrs. Siedhoff, has just completed his high school course and will enter Kansas University in the fall. Miss Viola Siedhoff is making a study of piano music. SIM, Mr. and Mrs. Coler L. 1303 North Lawrence Avenue. Mrs. Sim was before her marriage Miss Nellie Huntoon of Topeka. She was a student at Bethany College in Topeka. She is a member of the Eunice Sterling D. A. R. Mr. Sim is a graduate of the University of Illinois. He is a Mason, a member of the Wichita Club, and both Mr. and Mrs. Sim are members of the Art Association. In 1917 Mr. and Mrs. Sim gave to the city a beautiful tract of land which is known as Sim Park -- in memory of their son, the late Arthur B. Sim. Mr. and Mrs. Sim came to Wichita in 1885. SIMMS, Mr. and Mrs. W. L. 913 Nims Avenue. Until her marriage Mrs. Simms was Miss Lula Leonard, of Baldwin, Kansas. She was an Alpha chi Omega at Baker University. Mrs. Simms is a member of Hypatia. Mr. Simms attended Cooper College. He is a member of the Wichita, Country and Shrine Clubs, and of the Board of Commerce. SLADEN, Mr. and Mrs. Harry S. 3417 East English Street. Mrs. Sladen, (Miss Miriam Strong of Portland, Oregon), is a Bryn Mawr graduate. She is President of the Kansas Women's State Golf Association, one of the Board of Directors of the League of Women Voters, and a member of the School Board. Mr. Sladen is a Leland Stanford man. His fraternity is Zeta Psi, and he is a member of Kiwanis and of the Country Club. Mr. and Mrs. Sladen have a daughter and son, Mary Elizabeth and Joseph Alton. SMITH, Mr. and Mrs. Alton H. 2804 East Douglas Avenue. Until her marriage Mrs. Smith was Miss Kate English. She attended Lewis Academy and has taken a special course in kindergarten work. She is a member of the Twentieth Century Club and of the Saturday Afternoon Musical Club. Mrs. Smith is the daughter of the late N. A. English, one of the four men whose portrait appears on the membership certificates granted by the Pioneer Society. Mr. Smith is a Rotarian, a member of the Wichita Club, Board of Commerce, and is chairman of the City Planning Commission. Miss Kathryn Smith, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Smith, attended Rogers Hall at Lowell, Massachusetts, and Kansas University, is a Pi Beta Phi, and for a year has studied art with Birger Sandzen at Lindsburg. She is spending the summer at Provincetown, Cape Cod, Massachusetts, studying with Charles Hawthorne, but will resume her work with Mr. Sandzen in the fall. Miss Smith has also taken work at the Church School of Art in Chicago. SMITH, Mr. and Mrs. Dan 3712 East Douglas Avenue. Mrs. Smith, who was Miss Roberta Gray of St. Joseph, Missouri, is president of the League of Women Voters, and a member of the School Board and the Wichita Hospital Board. Mr. Smith is a member of the Wichita and Country Clubs, and is a Rotarian. Both he and Mrs. Smith are intensely fond of golf. Their two children are Dan Conlee Jr., and Marian Elizabeth. SMYTH, Mr. and Mrs. Charles H. 302 North Clifton Avenue. Mr. and Mrs. Smyth are among those families who came early to Wichita. Before her marriage Mrs. Smyth was Miss Anna Marie Lynch of Mt. Sterling, Illinois. During the early summer of 1921 Mrs. Smyth revisited with her husband, those places where he served with the American Red Cross, during the period of the war. Mr. Smyth is a member of the Country and Wichita Clubs, Lions, Shriner, Press Club and Board of Commerce, and is a Scottish Rites Mason. He delights in hunting trips and also heads the "Camp Kansas Colony" at Crede, Colorado, each summer. Camp Kansas, which remains open from July 15th until September 15th each year was laid out in 1890, and the Charles Smyth cabin was the first to be built, in 1891. There are now cabins with sufficient rooms to accommodate forty-five people. SMYTH, Mr. and Mrs. David 718 North Emporia Avenue. Marion, Iowa, was the home of Mrs. Smyth (Miss Anna Moorhead). She was President of the Wichita Musical Club for five years, and was for twenty-six years organist of the Eastern Star, of which she is now Past Matron. Her especial pleasure is in music. Mr. Smyth attended Monmouth College. He is a Past Master of the Marion, (Illinois), Lodge Number One, a Member of the Wichita Consistory. He belongs to the Country Club, and is an inveterate golfer. Mrs. Stackman was Miss Helen Houston, before her marriage. She attended Fairmount College and was a member of Alpha Tau Sigma. She is a member of the Saturday Afternoon Musical Club, and her especial interest is in books. Mr. Stackman attended St. Mary's in Oakland, California. He is a Mason and Shriner. STANLEY, Mr. and Mrs. Claude C. 1323 North Emporia Avenue. Mrs. Stanley, (Miss Jetta Campbell), is a Vassar graduate, and has spent much time in the study of music with artists in New York City. She is a D. A. R. and P. E. O. Mr. and Mrs. Stanley have two daughters, Virginia who is an Oaksmere girl, and Betty who attended Bradford Hall in New York. She is a member of Hypatia, the Art Association, and the League of Women Voters. Mr. Stanley received his A. M. from Pennsylvania College, attended Iowa University and received an honorary Ll. B. from Fairmount College. For fifteen years he was superintendent of the city schools in Lawrence, for one term before coming to Wichita was State Secretary of Public Instruction, and for twenty years was President of Friends University. Mrs. Stanley, (Miss Blanche Imboden) attended Baker University and is a Delta Delta Delta. She is a member of the P. E. O. STANLEY, Mrs. W. E. 945 Buffum Avenue. Mrs. Stanley, wife of the late ex-Governor Stanley, was until her marriage Miss Emma Hills. She attended college in Jacksonville, Illinois, and came to Wichita in 1871. Mrs. Stanley was for five years Regent of the Eunice Sterling D. A. R., during which time the marking of the Santa Fe Trail through Kansas was begun and carried out. For four years she was Vice President General of the organization and is at present honorary State Regent. Mrs. Stanley is a member of the Auxiliary to the American Legion, a member of the Thursday Cooking Club, of which she was president for three years; was first president of the Kansas Women's Society of New York -- the organization receiving the boys as they returned from service overseas, and was one of the appointees of Governor Allen to welcome the returning soldiers. She is a member of the Pioneer Society and is active in work of the First Methodist Church. Mrs. Stanley was mistress of the first executive residence of Kansas. Miss Harriett Stanley, daughter of Mrs. Stanley, attended Fairmount College, Wellesley, and was graduated from Baker University where she was a member of Delta Delta Delta. She was for one term Vice President of the national Delta Delta Delta organization. She is a member of the A. C. A., the Eunice Sterling D. A. R., of the Pan-Hellenic Association, the Delta Delta Delta Alliance, Auxiliary to the American Legion, Press Club, Book Club, Board of Education and Pioneer Society, and has been an instructor of English in the Wichita High School. Mr. Eugene Stanley, son of Mrs. Stanley, attended Baker University and received his A. B. and law degrees from the University of Chicago. His fraternity is Delta Tau Delta. Mr. Stanley was among the first to enter service after declaration of war by the United States. He attended the first Officers Training Camp at Ft. Riley and received a lieutenant's commission. He was a member of the staff of General Leonard Wood and was later made his personal aide. Mr. Stanley was one of the heads of the Bureau for Returning Soldiers, Sailors and Marines, established in Chicago. He was one of the speakers who had a part in raising many thousands of dollars during the Liberty Loan campaign. She was graduated cum laude from Southwestern College. She studied the harp at the American Conservatory of Music and the piano under Mrs. Crosby Adams and Rudolph Ganz. She has composed several songs which have been published. Mrs. Wallingford is identified with the Book Club. Mr. Wallingford is a member of the Wichita, Country, and Lions Clubs. Kansas City was the home of Mrs. Waltmire before her marriage, and her name was Mrs. Dora de Vell. She was in school at St. Teresa's Academy. Mr. Waltmire attended K. U. Betty Jane is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Waltmire. WASSON, Mr. and Mrs. Fred 4500 East Douglas Avenue. Mrs. Wasson (Miss Nanette Dodson) is a member of the Twentieth Century Club. Mr. Wasson is a member of the Shrine Club. Both Mr. and Mrs. Wasson are prominent in the Central Christian Church. Their son, Frederick Dorse, is studying the piano, and Donald Owen, the piano and expression. WATKINS, Mr. and Mrs. E. A. 111 Coolidge Avenue. Before her marriage Mrs. Watkins (Miss Hattie Alley) lived in Manchester, Oklahoma. She was a student at the Alva Normal School. Last year she was Treasurer of the Twentieth Century Club, and she is a member of the Helianthus Delphian Club. Mr. Watkins is a director of the Board of Commerce and of the Wheat Show, and is a member of the Wichita, Country and Shrine Clubs. Mr. and Mrs. Watkins have two children, Evelyn and Leon. WATTLES, Mr. and Mrs. Harvey 1149 University Avenue. Mrs. Wattles (Miss Jennie Fay) is a member of Hypatia and of the Wesley Hospital Board. She attended the Normal School at Ft. Scott. Mr. Wattles is a Wisconsin University graduate. He is a Mason and a Knights Templar. Mr. Willard Wattles received his A. B. and A. M. from K. U., where he was a Phi Beta Kappa. This year he is taking post-graduate work at Princeton University. He is a member of the MacDowell Colony and of the Authors Club. He has published "Sunflowers" and "Lanterns in Gethsemane," and has contributed poems to most of the well known magazines. Mr. Warren Wattles is a K. U. graduate, and is studying law at Yale University, where he is a member of Phi Delta Phi. Mrs. Orlin Morse (Miss Mary Wattles) is Mr. and Mrs. Wattles' daughter. She lives in Parsons, Kansas. Mr. Wear is a member of the Wichita and Lions Clubs, and of the Board of Commerce. Mrs. Wear loves flowers and gardening, while Mr. Wear is fond of outdoor sports. Dr. Weaver was in school at Washington University and at Drake College. He is a member of the Wichita, Rotary and Country Clubs. Mrs. Whalen (Miss Bertha Rauch) was graduated from Drake University. She is a member of the Twentieth Century Club. Mr. Whalen attended school in Wisconsin. He is a member of the Country Club, is President of the Wichita Club, and is second Vice President of the Board of Commerce. Mr. Whalen is also a member of the Rotary Club. Mrs. Wheeler (Miss Nellie Lehman) was educated at the Washington Seminary and at Lewis Academy. Mr. Wheeler belongs to a Southern family. He was educated at home. His clubs are the Country and Shrine Clubs. Mr. and Mrs. Wheeler are very much interested in golf. WHITAKER, Mr. and Mrs. C. C. 447 Vassar Avenue. Mrs. Whitaker (Miss Adaline Harding) is the daughter of H. J. Harding, a pioneer who came to Wichita when it was an Indian trading post. He was City Engineer through the "boom," and was one of the men who built the city. Mrs. Whitaker attended the University at Nashville, and Fairmount College, and later received her M. A. at Chicago University. She is a member of the Pioneer Society, the A. C. A., and the Twentieth Century Club. Mr. Whitaker received his A. B. and M. A. at Olivet, Michigan. He is a Scottish Rites Mason, a Knight templar, and a 32nd degree Mason. The sports in which he is interested are trout fishing, tennis, and golf. Mrs. Whitney (Miss Lilah Hirst of Hutchinson) is a member of the Eunice Sterling D. A. R. She was in school at K. S. A. C. Mr. Whitney attended school in Philadelphia. Mr. and Mrs. Whitney have two daughters, Myrta Eloise and Georgiana. WHITNEY, Mr. and Mrs. George 1101 North Topeka Avenue. Until marriage Mrs. Whitney's name was Miss Norma Aley. She came on the stage-coach to Wichita in 1871. Her school was Bethany College. Mrs. Whitney is Curator of the Pioneer Society, and she is a member of the Thursday Cooking Club and of the Old Settlers' Society. Mr. Whitney is a member of the Old Settlers and Pioneer Societies, and is high in Masonry. WHITNEY, Mr. and Mrs. William T. 1102 North Topeka Avenue. Portage, Wisconsin, was the home of Mrs. Whitney before her marriage and her name was Miss Irma Dering. She is a graduate of the Milwaukee Normal School, and St. Mary's School for Girls. Mrs. Whitney is identified with the Wichita D. A. R. Mr. Whitney was graduated from Beloit College, Wisconsin, where he was a Sigma Chi. Jane Whitney plays accompaniments for dancing, Paul is a Boy Scout, and William Taylor, Jr., is studying for industrial arts. WINTERS, Mr. and Mrs. George 905 Mathewson Avenue. Mrs. Winters has made a study of music, in New York at a private studio, two years with Esperanza Garrique, and at the College of Emporia, where she took public school music. She is a member of the Wichita Musical Club. Mr. Winters is a Wichita Club member. WOOD, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Clark 1125 North Emporia Avenue. Miss Emily Theresa Richardson was Mrs. Wood's name before her marriage. Her college was Thorold, Canada. She came to Wichita from Canada in 1878. Mrs. Wood is identified with the Old Settlers and Woman Suffrage Club. Mr. Wood is a member of the Wichita, Country, Press and Old Settlers Clubs, and of the Pioneer Society. Mr. Frank Wood, Jr., was in school at Lawrenceville and was an Alpha Delta Phi at Chicago University. He is a member of the Wichita, Country, and Rotary Clubs, and of the Board of Commerce. She attended Bethany College. She is on the Board of the Children's Home, and is Regent of the Eunice Sterling D. A. R. Mr. Woolard is a 32nd degree Mason, a Loyal Legionnaire, and an honorary member of the Wichita Club. He has compiled a number of books, "Things Beautiful," "Glorious Mother," and many others, which have gone all over the world, even to Australia. Miss Frances Woolard attended Fairmount College. WRIGHT, Mr. and Mrs. L. C. 3912 East Douglas Avenue. Before her marriage Mrs. Wright was Miss Ida Meredith Nessly. She attended Friends University. Mrs. Wright is a member of the Twentieth Century Club, the League of Women Voters, the Chartered Missouri Society and the Art Association. She has a great fondness for music. Mr. Wright is a K. Mrs. Yankey (Miss Edna Sutton) attended St. Xavier's convent in Chicago. Mr. Yankey is a member of the Country and Wichita Clubs. YANKEY, Mr. and Mrs. P. C. 229 Fountain Avenue. Before her marriage Mrs. Yankey was Miss Jessie Shute of Ottawa, Illinois. She attended the Art Institute in Chicago. Mr. Yankey was at Lawrence University in Appleton, Wisconsin. Mrs. Young (Miss Blanche Harris of Dodge City) has always been interested in church and club life. She is district superintendent of the C. W. B. M. She has been active in political circles for the past two years, and is the Vice Chairman of the 89th Congressional Committee, as well as Vice President of the Kansas Day Club.
