Hi Searchers, I have been asked about purchasing the 76 page booklet "REGISTRATION OF AXIS ALIENS IN KANSAS, January 1918 thru June 1918. The cost of the booklet is $15.00 (Kansas residents must pay an additional $1.04 for tax) The $15.00 includes postage and handling.

REMEMBER! This registration ONLY lists those people who were un-naturalized and LIVING IN KANSAS during this time period. If your folks are listed, you must send an additional $5.00 to the publishing company, and they will send you copies of what is in the file. I just learned that individuals from the publishing company actually go to the National Archives (in Kansas City) and hand copy each file. These registrations contain useful and identifying information such as:

residence, present and former, employer, when, where and by what means the person entered the United States, mother, father, siblings, wife, children, fingerprints, photograph, etc.

A gold mine of genealogical information.

Some background:
Source: REGISTRATION OF AXIS ALIENS IN KANSAS

The enactment and revision of Sections 4067, 4068, 4069 and 4070 of the revised Statutes of the United States, as approved by Congress, concerning hostile nations was executed by the Department of Justice on December 31, 1917. all unaturalized males (fourteen years and upward) who are subjects of the German Empire or of the Imperial German Government must register with the Department of Justice. This also was amended to include Alsace-Lorraine in France, and Schleswig-Holstein in Denmark.

On May 15, 1918, the Department of Justice enacyted the above regulation to the registration of German Alien Females (fourteen years and upward). Note that a married woman has a dual naturalization and ALSO takes on the naturalization of her spouse. Therefore, there are a number of natural-born American citizens listed.

ALL STATES WERE REQUIRED TO DO THIS REGISTRATION, but records were later destroyed. KANSAS HAS THE ONLY KNOWN EXISTING FILE of these registrations, and they are on deposit with the National Archives, from which this index was made. There are over 6,500 persons registered with 8,569 names indexed. (included are alias', other married names and maiden names.)

To order a booklet the address is:
KANSAS STATISTICAL PUBLISHING COMPANY
7609 West
64th Street
Overland Park, Kansas 66202

I am in no way associated with this company, so have nothing to gain financially through the distribution of this information.
