Topeka City Directory
1874-5

F. H. Woodbury, compiler and publisher

Topeka, Kan. : Swayze, Printer, 1874

A few notes on this directory:

  • This is not an exact alphabetical listing of residents. Names are listed as found in the book and are not always in order.
  • Numbered addresses are rare. Usually someone is listed as living on a street at a corner or between two cross streets.
  • Directional abbreviations might seem a bit strange: "w s" for "west south" instead of sw, southwest. Though reversed the meaning is still the same.
  • Some common abbreviations found here:
    A. T.& S. F........Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe Railway Company

    bds..........boards (rents)

    bet..........between

    clks........clerks

    col'd.......colored (i.e. African American)

    cor..........corner

    labr..........laborer

    nr............near

    N. T........North Topeka

    res...........resides or residence
