Cemeteries of Brown County, Kansas

Irving Township

CAMPBELL CEMETERY (CMB)

Located in Section 10,  Township 1, Range 18 of Brown County, Kansas.  Go to the end of North Sagebrush Road and the cemetery is about ¼ mile back in field.

From the east edge of Hiawatha on 240th Street (Old Highway 36) go east  5 miles to Prairie Road, turn left (north) and go 9 miles to 330th Street, turn right (east) and go 2 miles to Sagebrush Road and turn left (north), go to end of road and cemetery is about ¼ mile into field.

This is a very small cemetery and not very well kept up.  It was located close to the Indian Mission at one time.  The tombstones still there are as follows:

CAMPBELL, Murray A., b. 20SEP1867; d. 27JAN1901
            , George, infant son of Murray & Ida Campbell
            , Harvey W., d. 19MAY1875, age 32 years
DUPUIS, Francis, d. 17NOV1897, age 84 years
            , John, d. 27JAN1897, age 54 years 2 months, 11 days

KENYON CEMETERY (KEN)

This cemetery, also known as, Lone Pine or Klinefelter Cemetery is located in Section 4, Township 2, Range 18.

From the east edge of Hiawatha on 240th Street (Old Highway 36) go east 7 miles to Sagebrush Road, turn left (north), go 3 ¾ miles and the cemetery is on the left (west) side of road.

The old Kenyon Cemetery is located in the Roys Creek vicinity is one of the oldest cemeteries in Brown County.  This cemetery was not kept up very well and was vandalized.  Some of the tombstones were knocked over and some disappeared or were broken up.  In about 1999 the local 4-H Club took the tombstones and set them all back up in 2 neat rows with enough room between them so a lawn mower could go through. 

PARTLOW CEMETERY (PTL)

This cemetery is located in Section 2, Township 1, Range 18.  It is on the  Iowa and Sac & Fox Indian Reservation.

From the East edge of Hiawatha on 240th Street (Old Highway 36), go 7 miles east, turn left (north) and go 9 miles to 330th Street, turn right (east) and go 3 miles to Thrasher Road, turn left (north) and go 1 mile to 340th Street, turn right (east) and go ½ mile and the cemetery is on the right (south) side of road.  The Partlow Cemetery is very well kept up.

PLEASANT HILL CEMETERY 2 (PLH2)

This cemetery is located in Section 20, Township 1, Range 18.  This cemetery is also known as the Mount Zion Cemetery.

From the East edge of Hiawatha on 240th Street (Old Highway 36), go 7 miles east, turn left (north) and go 6 miles to 300th Street.  The cemetery sits on the northeast corner.  It is well kept up.

On a sign at entrance: “Site of Mount Zion Methodist Church, 1871-1971.  Dedicated to the Lasting Influence it left this Community.

TESSON CEMETERY (TES)

This cemetery is located in Section 12, Township 1, Range 18.  It is on the Iowa  and Sac & Fox Indian Reservation and is very well kept up.

From the East edge of Hiawatha on 240th Street (Old Highway 36), go 7 miles east, turn left (north) and go 9 miles to 330th Street, turn right (east) and go 4 miles, turn right (south) and go 1 mile, turn left (east) about ½ mile to cemetery.  It is on the left (north) side of road.
