Morrill Township

COTTRELL CEMETERY (CTL)

This Cemetery is located in Section 12 on 320th Street between Dewberry Road and Falcon Road. 

From Hiawatha go West on Highway 36 for 4 miles to Goldfinch Road turn north and go 5 ˝ miles to 290th Street, turn West and go 3 miles to Morrill, go north out of Morrill on Dewberry Road and go 3 miles to 320th Street and turn West. 

This Cemetery is no longer in existence.  The people known to be buried there are as follows:
COTTRELL, G.H., died 24 OCT 1870, son of J.H. & M.J. Cottrell, aged 20 years 4 months 27 days.
COTTRELL, Rebecca, daughter of J.H. Cottrell.
MARION, Infant, son of T.J. Marion brother of A.A. Marion, age 10 days.
McGUIRE, ??  , C.W. McGuire’s Grandmother
THOMPSON, L. B.
3 graves with common stone.
10 graves altogether. 

FUNDERBURGH CEMETERY (FDB)

This Cemetery is in Section 21.  At one time there was a stone wall around cemetery.  There were 5 burials of which 2 were Indians.  This Cemetery no longer exists. 

MARION CEMETERY (MRN)

This Cemetery is located in Section 23.  There were two graves.  This Cemetery no longer exists. 

MORRILL CEMETERY (MRL)

This Cemetery is located on Dewberry Road at the north edge of Morrill. 

From Hiawatha go 4 miles west on Highway 36 to Goldfinch Road, turn North and go 5 ˝ miles to 290th Road and go 3 miles to Morrill.  The Cemetery is at North edge of town on Dewberry Road. 

SANNER CEMETERY (SNR)

This cemetery is also known as a Dunkard Cemetery.  It is at the corner of 330th Street and Bittersweet Road. 

From Hiawatha go 4 miles west on Highway 36 to Goldfinch Road, turn North and go 5 ˝ miles to 290th Road and go 3 miles to Morrill.  Go North of Morrill on Dewberry 4 miles to 330th Street, turn West and go three miles.  The Cemetery is on the northeast corner. 

This Cemetery is no longer in use and several people have been moved to another cemetery.  Those still buried there are:
McCLINTOCK, Mary, born 18 FEB 1837, died 5SEP 1890, wife of J.P. McClintock.
SANNER, Freeman, born 11 FEB 1849, died 28 SEP 1897, aged 48 years 7 months 17 days.
SANNER, Sarah, died 20 MAR 1895, wife of Freeman Sanner, aged 43 years 11 months 2 days.

SCOTT CEMETERY (SCT)

This Cemetery is located on 330th Street between Dewberry Road and Falcon Road.  This Cemetery no longer exists.  Those who were buried there are:
SCOTT, Mary E., born 28 JAN 1866, died 10 APR 1867, twin daughter of J.W.& Ann Scott.
SCOTT, Maria A., born 28 JAN 1866, died 8 APR 1867, twin daughter of J.W.& Ann Scott
SCOTT, Della, born 25 MAR 1868, died 10 SEP 1868, daughter of J.W.& Ann Scott. 

SUN SPRINGS CEMETERY (SSP)

A Dunkard Church used to be at this site with the Cemetery alongside.  It is located on 270th Street between Dewberry Road and Falcon Road. 

From Hiawatha go 4 miles West on Highway 36 to Goldfinch Road, go 4 miles North to 270th Street, go West 2 ˝ miles and the Cemetery is on North side of road. 

SYCAMORE SPRINGS CEMETERY (SYS)

This Cemetery is also known as the Barker Cemetery.  It is located on 315th Street between Antelope Road and Bittersweet Road. 

From Hiawatha go 4 miles West on Highway 36 to Goldfinch Road, go 5 ˝ miles North to 270th Street, go West 3 miles to Morrill.  From Morrill go 3 miles north on Dewberry Road to 320th Street, turn West and go 3 miles to Bittersweet Road, turn South and go ˝ mile to 315th Street.  Turn West abut ˝ mile.  The Cemetery is at the edge of the road by a tree.  There are two tombstones still there leaning against the tree which read:
BARKER, Infant Son, died 15 MAR 1876.  Son of A.J.& E.J. Barker.
BARKER, Lafayette, died 5 MAR 1875, aged 2 years 6 months 9 days.  Son of A.J.& E.J. Barker.
BARKER, William, died 7 DEC 1879, aged 33 years 6 months 8 days. 

UNITED BRETHREN CHURCH CEMETERY (UBR)

This Cemetery is located 3 ˝ miles North of Morrill on Dewberry Road.  It is back off the road on west side.  The United Brethren Church used to sit along side of Cemetery. It is sometimes known as a Dunkard Cemtery. 

From Hiawatha go 4 miles West on Highway 36 to Goldfinch Road, Go North 5 ˝ miles to 290th Street and go West 3 miles to Morrill.  Go North of Morrill on Dewberry for 3 ˝ miles to Cemetery. 

The Brown County Genealogical Society has adopted this Cemetery.  The trees and brambles and bushes were cut out and it is mowed 2 or 3 times a summer.  This cemetery had been partially bulldozed, the stones moved to back of Cemetery.  The tombstones have set up, but they are not in proper place.
