Cemeteries of Brown County, Kansas

Robinson Township

MADISON CEMETERY (MDS)

This Cemetery is located on Raccoon Road between 180th and 190th Streets. 

From Hiawatha go South on Highway 73 6 miles to 170th Street, go East 5 ½  miles to Raccoon Road, turn North and go 1 ½ miles.  The cemetery is located in the field about ¼ mile behind the house. 

This cemetery is not very large and is fenced in.  It is overgrown with wild lilies. It is no longer used.  Only one tombstone could be found and it reads: 
NELSON, Ole, died 20 FEB 1861, age 65 years. 

PLEASANT RIDGE CEMETERY (PRG)

This Cemetery is located on 190th Street about ½ mile east of Thrasher Road. 

From Hiawatha go South on Highway 73 6 miles to 170th Street, go East 7 ½ miles to Sunflower Road, turn North and go 1 mile turn West on 180th and go ½ mile, turn North on Sumac and go 1 mile to 190th Street, turn East and go 2 ¼ miles.  The Cemetery is at the fence line to the northeast of the house.  This is an abandoned cemetery and is not kept.  It is overgrown with trees and brush. 

It is a small Cemetery and the tombstones that were found read as:
ARDREY, Mrs. Jane, died 21 SEP 1879, age 66 years.
COURTON, Nancy, died 28 AUG 1877, wife of R. F. Courton, age 59 years 8 months 11 days.
COURTON, Richard F., died 14 FEB 1889, age 78 years 7 months 1 day.
FARROW, Cassandra, died 6 SEP 1858, age 56 years.
HUGHES, John, died 27 DEC 1878, age 68 years.  He is on the same tombstone as Mrs. Jane Ardrey.
LARSON, Mads, died 21 DEC 1875, age 16 years 7 months 27 days.
LARSEN, Maren M., died 1 NOV 1898, age 8 years.
MAXWELL, Infant, died 24 JUL 1889, son of L. S.& E. C. Maxwell.
MAXWELL, Sarah M., died 18 ARP 1877, dau. of H.& A.M., age 12 years 6 months 8 days.
MAXWELL, R.W., died 1877.
SHERRILL, Hiram R., died 5 MAR 1879, son of Isaac & Elizabeth, 7 years 4 months 4 days.
SMITH, Infant, died 18 SEP 1865, son of H.& H. S.
SMITH, Charlie, d 15 SEP 1865,
son of H. & H. S. Smith, age 1y1m14d.
SMITH, Ellen J., d 21 Dec 1870, dau. of H. & H. S. Smith, age 2y10m15d.
WILLIAMS, Eli J., d 14 NOV 1865, son of P. & M. Williams age 1y9m5d

There is one foot-stone with the initials E J S on it.

ROSE HILL CEMETERY (RHL)

This Cemetery is located at the Southwest edge of Robinson, Kansas. 

From Hiawatha go East on Highway 36 for 6 miles to Raccoon Road, turn South and go through the town of Robinson to the Southwest edge of town.  The Cemetery sits on a hill and is a fairly large Cemetery. 

UNUNDA CEMETERY (UND)

This Cemetery is located on Raccoon Road about ¼ miles north of 240th Street. 

From Hiawatha go East on 240th Street for 6 miles to Raccoon Road, turn North and the Cemetery is ¼ mile on East side of road. 

It is sometimes known as the Prairie Springs Cemetery and the Wynona Cemetery. 

UPPER WOLF LUTHERAN CEMETERY (UPW)

This Cemetery is located on 180th Street and Sumac Road.  The Upper Lutheran Church is across the road from the Cemetery. 

From Hiawatha go South on Highway 73 to 170th Street, turn East and go 7 ½ miles to Sunflower Road, Turn North and go 1 miles, turn West on 180th Street and go ½ mile.
