OBITUARY OF BENJAMIN FRANKLIN GARRETT:
Death of B. F. Garrett
The members of the family of B. F. Garrett were greatly shocked last Thursday evening by the sudden death of the father of the family at their home on the Shem farm, two miles northwest of WaKeeney. The cause of death being complication of stomach and heart trouble.
Mr. Garrett had had heart trouble for some time but not to any great extent. He had been in usual health and no indication of his approaching fate was noticed. His son Elisha, and family had driven into the yard in their automobile and Mr. Garrett was standing at the car talking with them when he was suddenly seized with pain. He shruddered and said that he would have to lie down. He was quickly made as comfortable as possible but before medical assistance could be secured his life had passed away.
Benjamin Franklin Garrett was born at Springtown, Ark., October 19, 1870 and grew to man hood at that place. On September 27, 1891, he was united in Marriage with Susan Lewis. Twelve children were born to them. One son Russell preceded his father in death. Mr. Garrett and family came to Trego county about eight years ago and have since made their home in this vicinity where Mr. Garrett has engaged in farm work.
The deceased was 59 years, 9 months and 25 days old. He is survived by his wife and eleven children, seventeen grand children besides one brother and one sister. The children are Elisha Garrett, Mrs. Myrtle Cummings, of WaKeeney, Ed Garrett, Mutual, Okla., Mrs. Mary Blanchard, Coggon, Iowa, Mrs. Effie Daniels, Kansas City, Mo., Mrs. Ella Palmer, Los Angeles, Calif., Mrs. Irene Claycamp, Ogallah and James, Opal Mae and Glen, of the home.
Mr. Garrett united with the Baptist Church at Springtown, Ark., when 11 years of age, and was a faithful member all during his life. During his early life he was an active worker in Sunday school and always insisted that his children attended Sunday school.
The funeral services were conducted Saturday afternoon from the WaKeeney Presbyterian church by the Rev. Wonder, of Ogallah . Burial was at the WaKeeney cemetery. The relatives from a distance were here to attend the funeral were: Ed Garrett, Mutual, Okla., Mrs. Mary Blanchard, Coggon, Iowa, and Mrs. Ida Snapp, of Kansas City, Mo.
